Re: Is Paintball a War Simulation Game?

I said other.

I dont think speedball replicates war.

But the concept of shooting people, and using tactics and such relates to combat....

I couldnt really say either yes or no, but im leaning to the yes side.

Re: Is Paintball a War Simulation Game?

My definition of War is two opposing forces battling each other so I still see speedball as a war. Mmmmm WAR!!!

Re: Is Paintball a War Simulation Game?

I do see woodsball/scenario as a form of simulation war but speedball is more of a game of tag using airguns that shoot out balls filled with paint. And also if you think about it sports were invented to keep warriors fit for wars so...

Re: Is Paintball a War Simulation Game?

I agree with what Jam said.

The largest game I ever played in had about 100 people per team, so 200 people total. It was pure chaos! Watching 100 people charge a woodline at full speed screaming thier heads only to be met by a wall of paint flying out of the woods was just awsome.

You couldn't tell which way to shoot, but I recommend going to a BIG game at least once. I can easily see how a real battle would be very chaotic. Only, paintball is fun because I know it's just a game.

Leading a charge of 20+ people running after a retreating opfor is priceless, one of the best times I ever had. We had a good laugh afterwards.

Re: Is Paintball a War Simulation Game?

I believe that the answer is not a clear-cut yes or no.

Paintball can be used to simulate warfare, but is not "war simulation" in and of itself. I make a distinction between war and warfare, the former being armed conflict in all its entirety with political aspects and strategic concerns all encompassed - while warfare is simply two or more forces in armed conflict with one another.

Paintball in this case does not really simulate war. Perhaps the largest of scenario games can come close, but to truly simulate war all concerns would need to be encompassed - a dedicated team of strategists and/or tacticians, political structure etc. would all need to be simulated in some way for a true "war simulation" to be the case.

I say that paintball can be made to simulate warfare, though by no means is it a simulation of warfare by its own nature. Speedball does not attempt to simulate war, speedball (as far as I am aware) aims to turn paintball into a sport like any other - a simple physical activity undertaken in the spirit of fun and/or competition.

Scenario games can be said to simulate warfare, due to the more militaristic themes of most games, with camouflage and milsim equipment. With warfare being defined as
Quote:
the conduct of conflict between opponents
scenario can certainly be said to recreate conflict between opponents.

I say that whether or not a game of paintball is a warfare simulation depends entirely on the setting and atmosphere of that particular game.

But as a "War simulation"? Far from it.
