Re: Infant Shot By Paintball

Couldn't agree with you guys more. A jackass gets a marker and our sport gets bad rep.

Truthfully, it doesn't matter what type of player the person was. All that matters was that the person decided to misuse a paintball gun and almost severely injured two people. If someone wanted to blow this thing up and make it anti-paintball to attempt to get the sport restricted, they could.

As for "this could have been avoided very easily by putting he window up."

It's summer and sometimes people do not have air conditioning in their vehicles. I doubt if you had kids you would keep them locked in a blistering hot car in summer with the windows up while waiting in a parking lot.

In case your a fellow TechPB fan, a follow-up...

YouTube - Hmmm

For the record, unlike some of the other fans, I don't hate PbNation because Mike hates PbNation. I don't even involve myself in the TechPB/PbNation fight... You can spend an hour in that forum and never want to go back. But I'll keep my detailed opinions off of the A5OG, I don't want to turn it into an argument.

Re: Infant Shot By Paintball

I never really know what to say when I read this kind of thing. My disgust usually overpowers my ability to form a coherent sentence.

People who do this are not paintballers. Even though they may be proper players who actually do play proper games using their equipment, anyone who does something like this is not worth the title of Paintballer. I don't care whether you're a 13-year old Walmart kid with a Brass Eagle whatever or whether you're a full-blown toruney player with DYE everything and more sponsorships than ammo-

-whoever may have done it, they are not paintballers. End of story.

One thing I want to clarify, is what's the whole feud between PBN and TechPB?

Re: Infant Shot By Paintball

I hope that everyone's prayers go out to the family that were affected by this avoidable incident.

As difficult as it is to say, I believe the US should put some more restrictions on buying markers. Maybe not as strict as the Aussies, but something to help keep them out of the hands of the stupid "Jackass" wannabes. Most of the vids on YouTube that come up when you type in "Paintball" are some stupid kids causing obvious pain to each other with markers all for laughs. This is definitely giving the game that we love a bad name.

Just my opinion, for what it's worth.

Re: Infant Shot By Paintball

Although I respect your opinion on how to handle imbeciles with markers, people who are generally trouble makers will find ways to cause problems. You can always circumvent any rules that are set in place. You can't regulate living, and these people just chose to live in such a manner that is morally unacceptable.
Putting restrictions on buying markers only puts an illusion of dealing with a problem of people using markers inappropriately.

Awareness of improper use of paintball markers is necessary, so sad stories like these need to be known to let people who are prone to mischief behavior that markers are dangerous, and that sometimes things happen that may not be intended such as the infant getting hit. Or at least I would like to think that it was not intended.

If any restriction is necessary, I would suggest taking a hunter's safety class, or one catering to paintballers, prior to buying a marker. I would like to think if you had hunter's safety that you would realize anything that shoots projectiles is a bad thing.

But it should be determined whether this incident is common, or just isolated, before making any decision regarding restrictions.

And if you see an idiot with a marker misusing it, then tell that person to get their act to together. Unless they look like the dangerous type, then just call the cops.

Anyways...

Peace!

On a more positive note....all that is ever seen in the media is such incidents as the one noted in this thread....what needs to happen to preserve the sport is something similar to what the Glen Morris Mercenaries have finally managed to pull off......the general public needs to know that the general paintball community for the most part do abide by the rules and safety guidelines set out for our sport...and we need to get this same message out to the general public...I for one abhor hearing news of this nature and perhaps even moreso than the average joe would like to see these offenders punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Re: Infant Shot By Paintball

Ok, fine, make painball markers harder to buy becuase of this..

Now "Joe Blow" over here is bored, and wants to destroy stuff, and he can't get a paintball marker to do it, so... he will use a slingshot to shoot paintballs (works just as good, they are way higher velocity too!) Fine, make paint harder to buy, he will just have to shoot rocks.
Or ban sling shots, when he gets bored he will just walk around with a pencil and stab stuff.

Then if you ban pencils, i wont have to take the SAT

No matter what, stupid people will think of stupid ways to make everyone angry. This whole situation is makeing me really mad but unfortunateley, it happened. LUCKY NOBODY GOT HURT!

Instead of trying to BAN everything, try TEACHING the general public, a respectible way to act. Maybe if they understand the seriousness of the actions, they will think more about it.

Kids lack respect.

Well, being a father myself, I have sat in the parking lot of the grocery store and fed my daughter with the windows rolled down or with a door open. There is no excuse for something like this happening, and you words, at least to me, implied that you were blaming the mother for having her window rolled down in the parking lot of the parmacy, a place where paintball markers need not be.
