Paintball as an Olympic Sport

As everyone in the world should know, the Olympics are going on right now in Beijing.
Aside from all the bigger sports, like basketball, swimming, track and stuff.

I thought, "hey wouldnt it be interesting if paintballing became an Olympic sport?"

I thought it would be cool to see it in the next 4 years as a sport.

it seems easy enough and I think enough of the world has seen and played to sport to easily organize a team

but the sad part is if it were to become a sport, it would be speedball.
All electros and no tippmanns

But it would still be a great sport that offers more unique challenges and it would be a great way to promote the sport to the world.

Anybody with me on this??

Re: Paintball as an Olympic Sport

It would be awesome. I know I have seen a bunch of petitions for it, but I doubt it will ever happen.

I barely even see speedball on ESPN anymore even, so goodluck to woodsball making it big.

Re: Paintball as an Olympic Sport

I remember this discussion alredy took place a long time ago, but the general consensus was that pump class was the most likely (if ever) to become an olympic sport.

That way, all of the players are equally matched. They must rely on skill, instead of who has the most expensive equipment.

Re: Paintball as an Olympic Sport

Im not even gonna get into the anti speedball crap.

Re: Paintball as an Olympic Sport

The Olympics usually includes sports where the athlete needs to use their body to out perform their competitors. Paintball is more mechanical. Its the same reason why water skiing will never become an Olympic sport. There's too much machine involved in it.

Re: Paintball as an Olympic Sport

I'd have to agree that if paintball were included, speedball would definately be the pick. THEN I'd watch it, hell yeah. And why not paintball as an olympic sport? I mean c'mon, curling? and now through the grapevine I hear double'dutch is being talked about? That's ridiculous. Double-dutch making it to the olympics before paintball is like Jethro Tull beating out Metallica, ABSURD. I think we'll see paintball as an event someday, I think it deserves a chance and not 'cause I play, but because millions do.

Isn't shooting or archery mechanical? Air rifle is an olympic sport. Air Rifle! Not that much different from a paintball gun. Only difference is we shoot at a moving target. In my opinion that takes some skill. No reason paintball couldn't be an olympic sport.

The difference is that they are very accurate and are shooting at targets, which the targets can be analzyed. Paintball is not nearly as accurate and amount of paint on someone can be subjective.

Yea, the whole idea of paintball as an Olympic sport has been tossed around here and there. But still, it would have to be speedball, and of course you gotta remember the gear and guns. Can't have america with all the big guns
