Re: Mask Fans: Are they worth it?

I have glasses so I bought an Extreme rage mask with a fan in it. It sounded like I had a wasps nest in my mask. I bought my own fan and put on a vari speed on/off switch. Now I can turn it on only when I need it and can turn it down so there is no noise. Can't play without it.

btw i think the fans are great but there a little too expensive. but its still better to spend $60 then not be able to see.

did you use the clear single pane lenses or the smoke dual pane. You have to use the dual pane thermal ones

Re: Mask Fans: Are they worth it?

Depending on how humid it is, fogging can be an issue for even the best mask. Especially if you also wear glasses and sweat a lot... I've never used a mask fan myself, but I have thought about buying one.

One trick I learned a long time ago is to rub antiperspirant on your forehead and around your eyes. Be sure to use antiperspirant and not deodorant. Unscented gel antiperspirant works best in my experience (the scented stuff tends to irritate the eyes). For me I've found that this eliminates fogging issues unless it's very humid.

Re: Mask Fans: Are they worth it?

I don't know if I'd say they're worth their weight in gold, but they are worth it. I play down in NC where the humidity is insane and no matter what you put on your lense it will fog. But I tried a fan one time and it worked great. I even tried one with a mask that wasn't thermal or anything like that, and it kept me clear all day. Great things.

Re: Mask Fans: Are they worth it?

I built my own because the Proto fan was crap... But it has saved my butt more than I like to admit.

Re: Mask Fans: Are they worth it?

LordOdin99,

The manufactures fan are pretty crappy in that they are very noisy. I did not feel like spending that much cash anyway on a fan and followed a post to use small laptop fans and found that they are quiet as well as provide a breeze inside my goggles to cool me off as well. I ended up using the smallest fan I could find 17mm and it fit in the stock spot on my Proto Switch EL mask.

Re: Mask Fans: Are they worth it?

I have a JT flex 8 full cover camo with Vortex II fan. The fan came FREE with the mask and I definitly voted yes.

The fan attaches directly above the lens. The lens are vented though slits directly to the fan location, and the fan only takes seconds to clear the mask of moisture.

Re: Mask Fans: Are they worth it?

I have an old school JT Spectra with double thermal lens AND the Vortex fan and never have a fogging problem. I don't run the fan all the time though. I turn it on for about 30 seconds when I put the mask on to equalize the air temperatures and then only turn it on for 15-30 seconds at a time when playing if I start to fog up.

So I say YES, for the most part, fans are worth the money and noise.
