Re: Mask Fans: Are they worth it?

Paintball fans (that sound like cell phones on vibrate) that are sold for masks work so-so and are expensive. Just wire up a low power computer fan and a 9v battery. It's quiet and the fan is bigger.

Re: Mask Fans: Are they worth it?

My glasses fog up worse than my mask. After scrounging for parts and buying a switch I had a homemade setup that works great and cost me $3.20.

I'm a big guy and I sweat a lot. I have thermal lenses with a fan. Good to go.

Re: Mask Fans: Are they worth it?

I would be blind without it in some games/weather. Great for when youre on the move. But once you settle down in a stalking role, you would want to switch it off so you can hear better.

Re: Mask Fans: Are they worth it?

I made my own from parts at radio shack and I have never fogged since, dry heat, humid heat and rain.

Here are the directions that I used, the leader of our community practically made it mandatory to install one.

Radioshack:
12 volt fan - $10
9 volt battery - $2
Battery adapter (sorry don't know the correct term) - 2 for $3
Switch - 3 or 4 in a package - $3 (optional for now)

At Home:
Hot glue gun
2 Zip ties

Start by hot gluing your fan somewhere above your lens. Most of us have attached it to the visor. Zip tie the 9volt batter somewhere within reach of the fan inside your mask. Attach the battery adapter. Attach the wries from fan to battery adapter. Your all said and done, under $20 for a FANTASTIC product.

Most of us sused sauder and attached a switch between the battery and the fan. Easy to do, but if you need help of the equipment, going the other route is easy and quick for this weekend.

I very much recommend doing this. Honestly, I will never play again without one of these in my mask. 100% better than regular goggle fans you buy at paintball stores for over 40-50 bucks.

Detail:

12VDC Micro Fan (40mm) - Model #: 273-240 (Cost was $11.00 each)
Heavy Duty 9V Battery Snap Connectors - Model#: 270-324 ($3.00)
SPST Mini Toggle Switch - Model #: 275-324 ($2.00)

Re: Mask Fans: Are they worth it?

One of my masks came with a fan. I'd say it was worth it. It saved me quite a few times in game. I ended up the one who could see and they were the ones who had fog on their lenses.

Re: Mask Fans: Are they worth it?

i bought a fanz double fan off ebay, for like $29 it works great, two little fans abouve the lens under the visor, quiet and it does a great job of getting rid of fog, I play int he pascific north west, in vancouver bc canda sometimes up in the hills and its cold and wet in winter, or hot in summer and i was having nothing but fog problems I couldn't see or walk it sucked, then I went out bought the parts and built my own fan. it works great too and cost less than the e bay double fan, it was easy to make and intall. and now I have no fog issues in the great Canadian woods,

checkout the parts and pics
