Mask Fans: Are they worth it?

What would you guys say? Are they worth it or just another marketing gimmick? In other words, do they really work.

I can't speak for anyone else, but from my personal experience, I would say no. The blades are too small to actually move the air fast enough and if the mask is sealed around the eyes by foam, there is no opening for air circulation. If it goes out, something has to come in. Also, the fan noise is annoying and distracting. Makes it harder to hear enemy movement.

Commercial ones are absolute junk... make you own with some good fans and then you are golden!

Read through this thread for some options:

I guess I'd tend to disagree. I have the fan for my Dye Invision and it helps. It's not incredibly efficient or anything like that but if you accept that beforehand it's not as big a deal.

Hmm, that's interesting because I have the exact same setup (minus the fan nowadays) and didn't think it was good at all. I don't know if it matters at all but what kind of climate do you play in?

Re: Mask Fans: Are they worth it?

I say mask fans are worth it.

I've been using V-Force goggles since I started playing, but in Michigan, where I live and play, it can get pretty humid in the summer and condensation build-up becomes a problem. Fed up and after some research, (including the undergroundmodshop) I put my own fans in my mask.

They have made a world of difference while playing. I play with a friend who has the same mask I do and while he has condensation build-up while playing, I don't with the fans running and haven't since I've been using them.

Since the condensation is always inside from face body heat and sweat, I put the fans in where the vents are between the lens and the forehead as to pull cool air in. They make a little noise, but not enough to hamper my hearing, or give me away on the field. They are just two little 25mmX25mmX10mm cpu fans connected to a 9v.

Hope my input helped some.

Re: Mask Fans: Are they worth it?

On my old flex 7 the JT vortex fan was unstoppable. No matter how humid it got when I clicked on the fan the mask cleared right up.

Re: Mask Fans: Are they worth it?

I say they work. Pickup a couple at Radio Shack and put them on my profilers. You can get them on ebay also. Runs off a 9v. They work good. Put a switch in that you can turn off/on. Cost like $15 or less.

Re: Mask Fans: Are they worth it?

Since I wear glasses a fan is almost required-but I made my own fan as well and have no fogging problems.

Re: Mask Fans: Are they worth it?

Am a glasses wearer with a v-force shield and fog alot. Made my own fan with some help from a post here on the fourms. It makes some noise but not enough to be heard by others.
