Re: Should I paint my mask?

Dear Mr. Deacon

I have found out painting some type of Camo pattern with a light tan and a little Black with that color scheme work really well.....There is a guy on PB JUNKIE named Grendel who has an awesome Pattern here is the web site: PBjunkie.com - View Profile: Grendel

Some times in life you have to take risks.....

Re: Should I paint my mask?

While I enjoy the custom look painting gives any object... my experiences have been less than 'appealing' so to speak. I did this to my UMP recently, and prior that some years, to a cheapo mask. With paintball, I've found that taking hits to anything that's been painted will crack and chip the paint (unless of course you go with military grade finishes), especially on masks which are flexible and such. I also found that after awhile, the repeated paint strikes were causing the paint to bubble up and in some places become weirdly sticky which caused it to start attracting a lot of dirt and grime ... all of which is very annoying from a certain aesthetic factor, lol. It eventually started leaving a nasty residue on my gloves too, so I wound up taking a quart of Acetone and stripping it all off.

Basically I'm of the opinion that evil black guns were meant to stay evil black guns

Oh, and for painting your mask.... NO!

Re: Should I paint my mask?

It won't take a hit!? hmmm...... I have two "painted" masks with visors, and they have survived many games and many shots to the face area.

Here is my multicam mask after yet another full day and a few shots to the face:

Re: Should I paint my mask?

Results will vary, of course. I know some guys have great success with their paint jobs. I have not. I applaud the guys that do, though, and kudos to you and yours

Re: Should I paint my mask?

chitt, would I be correct in assuming you painted your masks by hydro-imaging them (or whatever the name of the process is)?

That is correct. Water transfer printing, hydro printing, whatever you wanna call it.

Re: Should I paint my mask?

Actually my T8 was my first run. It is about to be re-done by the man. haha

I am familiar with the process, and have tried it a few times on my own gear, but I don't dare.....and I'm not nearly good enough to do customer projects.

Sorry to semi-hijack the thread.
