| Re: soviet mask idea Not sure which gas mask style you are doing, because my google search yielded ones with hoses leading to some sort of back unit, and another with the filter right on the mask. Well you seem to have they eye bit sorted out, but for the rest of it, it should be easy enough to find a used filter, and figure out a way to just attach it directly to your mask. it shouldn't interfere with your breathing, it won't make it any hotter, and it might just look cool... could depend on your mask style. Same with the rubber hose. It would be easy enough to just attack those directly to your mask. I actually just had an idea that if you had one piece a few feet long, you could run it from one cheek, around behind your neck (with enough slack to still remove the mask), and then attack the other end at the other cheek. That would look cool, though it would not be replica.

That's a relay neat idea bro with a nuclear fallout theme! I like it. It would be kind of like the movie "Red Dawn" or the PC game "World in Conflict". My only objections with the gas mask idea is you are going to sweat to death with it on at Blanding if you go that route. I was there for the "Revenge of a Nerd game" in June is it was really, really hot that weekend. They had a few people get sick from the heat. So for the design I would incorporate something like what everyone else is said, put the respirator piece on the side of the mask so it does not restrict airflow into your mask. Like some one said before with the lenses, gas mask have tiny little lenses to look through, and that's going to restrict your field of view. Last edited by Snake-Eyes78 : 07-28-2008 at 02:21 PM. |

| Re: soviet mask idea yeah, I won one of the cold war era soviet gas masks, mine is vynil tough with a hose that connects to a filter to adapting it to my mask would be a pain, not to mention that it will cover all the vents and get super hot. The idea is pretty good though and personally I think that the best way to do it is to attach a breathing filter to a mask and maybe use goggle skinz. Either way I found some pictures on the wikipedia that may help. ![]()
