Headbanger Shemaghs

Well a shemagh, for those of you who do not know, is basically a large square of cloth (about 3' x 3') that is worn as a scarf. These are very popular over in middle eastern countries because of their ability to help keep your head cool in the heat. They are also given to Canadian and American armed forces when they are sent overseas (I'm fairly certain about this).

Now I ordered a US military issue OD green one on Ebay for $10, and in short, it's awesome.

Here are some reasons why I love it:

1. Excellent neck/head protection for paintball, depending on how I choose to wear it.

2. Additional camoflage for a normally uncovered area. The real shemaghs come in tan/black and OD green/black patterns, as well as a few others I think. You can also just make your own, but the material mine is made of is probably better than the stuff from Wal-Mart.

3. It's useful. It can be quickly converted into a makeshift sling, bandage, or short pull rope, should you ever need any of these items on the field.

4. It's just plain cool.

And here's me with mine on.

Another option for head protection is to purchase a Ban-Du and a neck protector. The advantages of those may be debated here.

Re: Shemaghs

I've given some serious thought to getting one of thee myself but I play in the swamplands down in SC & half the time the humidity alone while standing still is enough to kill you.

Re: Shemaghs

I have been considering adding those to my product list. I would not make them, but can get them and offer them at reasonable prices.

I think Ban-dus and Shemaghs are both great options for people, each with strengths over and disadvantages to the other.

They are usually used in the desert... Why not in the NC/SC area? I live on the coast of NC. Humidity is TERRIBLE! I guess once it gets wet from sweat it would do wonders...

Re: Shemaghs

I bought one two weeks ago, Khaki/Black goes more with Multicam.

I really like it but will wear more when it cools down some.

I'll have to buy one of the Khaki ones. I ordered the OD green before I got into multicam, while I still had woodland BDU's.

Shartley, would you list the advantages and disadvantages to each please?

And I don't see any problem with wearing it in very humid areas as long as it keeps the sun off of my head.

Well it's not like they're super-expensive or anything. I found it for a mere $10 on Ebay (I said this already, didn't I?) so it's not really worth it to resell. Watch Ebay, and you can find one for the same price. I think it was like $13 total, a very small price for such an awesome item.

I'll keep mine as a spare, since they make useful field towels.
