T8/T9 custom quick change

As many of you know, cracking that 12 gram in your T8/T9 mag on the field can be a pain if you dont have a allen wrench handy. And if you forget it all together or lose it your just out of luck. But looking into the quick changes I found their $12 plus shipping price was pretty expensive. Especially when you have 4 mags like me, the price adds up to a whole new mag you could have bought! So I started thinking and I already had 2 extra 3/16 wrenches laying around the house, and I could get a whole new set at walmart for only .94 cents.

My first struggle was trying to cut the wrench down to size. I tried many things from a pipe cutter to a saw, this baby was hard as a rock and not even a dent. So after hours of pondering I remembered a set of bolt cutters we have. But even for this it was a struggle to cut, but it got the job done. (also has been suggested to use a dremel with a cutting wheel on it)

I cut on the long side of the wrench pretty carelessly because I measured before hand and I could use the shorter top piece as the part that goes into the mag.

not all of the wrenches were the same size, but all worked equally as well as the others.

Then I just filed down any sharp or rough edges, try to make it look clean and neat as possible.

Next just grab some super glue (other products that would probably work are loctite, JB weld, any kind of super strong adhesive) and put a little into the 12 gram cracker wrench hole, But make sure none leaks out into your mag for a mess. Then place the shortened wrench in the whole and let dry.

Now you got a very easy and convenient 12 gram changer on your T8/T9 mag. And if you were wondering the bottom of the mag can still be taken completely off, this does not get in the way. Another option would be to just use the straight piece of the wrench, but I found it much easier and faster with the L.

grand total cost me $2 and only took about a hour to do. Not bad compared to the $50 I would have spent and week plus it takes to ship

The price if I bought everything:
- 4 wrench sets .94 x 4 = $4
- superglue $1.50
total $5.50

Re: T8/T9 custom quick change

no problem. It was a very easy thing to do. The only thing that might keep people from being able to do this is being able to cut them. I used a giant pair of bolt cutters that I had laying around (dont really know why I have them). But If anyone can find another way to cut them please post up

Use a cutoff wheel on your Dremel....

Why didn't I THINK of that...

Re: T8/T9 custom quick change

Just an improvement you might want to consider. Why not fabricate a metal or composite knob that encloses the L-shape (or makes it easier to turn a straight section. The knob could be knurled for easy grip, too. I think it would look great, a sleeker look.

Re: T8/T9 custom quick change

I agree, it probably wouldn't be that difficult to spot weld a metal knob (or even just lock tight) a knob to the L, that'd make it look super clean.

Re: T8/T9 custom quick change

I know!!! lol.. get some heat shrink tubing (for covering electrical wires) and heat that ***** up over the L so it shrinks down to size (may need to put some super glue on the hex key before covering it with the heat shrink tubing.. then take a lighter to it so it shrinks down onto the super glue and won't come off

that way you have a rubber coated piece instead of metal

Re: T8/T9 custom quick change

or you could just go to the spray paint section and get a can of the plastic dip, very easy and quick, just dip and let dry
