Paintball Pistols

I was half considering forking out money to go buy myself a Tac-8 or Warsensor Zeus or something along those lines, but one thing I found was that they were really big, even akward especially with a leg holster.

I was wondering what would stop me loading gas airsoft pistols with 6mm paintball BB's. I'm 100% sure they shoot below 300fps, I chronoed them and they say so on the box. Anything stopping me from using these compact, mil-sim and handlable weapons?

Re: Paintball Pistols

1) You're out of luck at FPO fields.
2) Back in the day, when I last ran into these, their accuracy was lousy, as was their hit-to-break ratio.
3) If traveling below 300fps, given that they have less mass than a paintball, their muzzle energy should be a lot less. But - that said - they and/or their propellants may cause insurance or other safety issues I can't think of.

If you want a more "milsim" option than the Tac8 or the stacked tube pistols like the Zeus, take a look at RAP4's .43 caliber pistols. You still may have the FPO issues, but they seem to be gaining acceptance more than the old 6mm paint.

Re: Paintball Pistols

Another question is whether you really want/need a pistol. I know a lot of people that were gung ho, got a pistol, then turned around and sold it because it wasn't their style. Here's a few questions you might want to ask yourself before you plunk down the change.

Re: Paintball Pistols

i love the tac8 + its accuracy! but, you're right, its a little big and uncomfortable on the leg...i have it on a vest and can't complain...and i don't know if any field will allow anything below .68 especially when they want u to splurge on their paint!

Re: Paintball Pistols

yeah I used to have a rap 4 walther p99 pistol & it was a good gun, used .43 cal paint but was clearly for up close encounters.

like a backup when reloading or something

Re: Paintball Pistols

I have rap's p99 as well. I love it, most scenario games allow me to use since its a back up, but most fields don't allow during regular play because of the .43 caliber.

I'd say hold off and see what tippmann's new pistol is going to be. Supposedly its magazine fed, but the CO2 is in the gun itself, making the grip smaller...

It's my understanding that the .43 cal paintballs need a velocity in the 350-400 fps range to perform properly. At those velocities they have about the same impact energy as a .68 traveling at 300 fps. Unfortunately most paintball fields still won't allow you to use them at those velocities, since their insurance specifies a set max fps which does not account for actual impact energy of the projectile.

Re: Paintball Pistols

Back when I played with an autococker I always caried a PGP, it saved my butt on more then one ocasion. I would tune my cocker to shoot faster then it was realy ment to, so any little thing that was bumped out of adjustment and the gun would stop working completly. (I have nothng against cockers, they are woundrful and reliable when properly adjusted)

I prefer the tippmans these days and generlay don't even wory about needing a back up gun, but I'm going to start playing some bigger games and have thought about buying a tac-8 or braking out the PGP.

My main reson for concern is not that my tippman will break down, but that I will run out of air. But then again stranger things have happened and it's a little security that can mean the diference between ending your game early or continueing with the mission.

On another note I would be willing to bet that most guys toting pistols as back ups are not capable of efectivly playing with them. I bet they don't practice with them as a primary gun on any regular basis, and there for are waistng their energy toting them around just to look cool, just a thought, not true of all players.
