1. It uses a poppet valve, they are very finnicky take a long time to work in and to tech.
2. Heard the ASA has a small problem with feeding.

I like it, but I might wait for a gen2 version where all the bugs are worked out.

I have an ION rebuilt with epiphany internals, it rips.

Ever thought about the SP Eos? it looks sick.

Here is an animation of the valve system in the mini.

The current one is Gen 2. The guy at you're proshop was probably talking about the first Mini's, which had some problems.

Re: Proto Rail vs Invert Mini vs DP Fusion vs Epiphany

the mini isn't a standard poppet valve. Its a pressure controlled poppet, the difference is how they are engaged, almost all other poppets are engaged by a ram or hammer where as the mini is engaged via air pressure, and then follows through a bit like a spool valve system. In truth its very original, not to mention very easy to tech once you understand it.

i've also never heard of an asa problem. Thats one part of the marker i've got no gripes with at all. Grip frame is a bit of an odd angle IMO and thick in strange places but thats just a difference. The original board design and poppet were the only well known flaws, both have been fixed. The only other issue i've seen come up that isn't user triggered is the detents basically falling apart while on gun.

I recomend the fusion as its basically an intimidator, making it a thoroughbred by association. Or the mini, as those are the two with the least flaws.
The rail has a composite frame, and they didn't produce it well at all, they should have done it like the old mag frames, these can bend to expose the internals. The epiphany is an ion with slightly tweaked internals, so it will last and it will get the job done, but IMO the ion's been one of the worst preformers around, its good for 200 but the epiphany's price is too high for what it is. Still no bolt out back body? (on the epiph that is, the new sp markers have that)

Re: Proto Rail vs Invert Mini vs DP Fusion vs Epiphany

I took my new fusion F8 to the the field today and feel in love. The board doesn't take an engineering degree to figure out. It has 4 dip switches and an easy to follow manual to set modes. I had a PMR and the fusion is ALOT lighter. It shot fairly consistant groups but I really didn't have time to tweak at the chrono, it was real busy and he first few shots were in the upper 300's, as soon as I had one that was 250 I was asked nicely to please move on and I did. The field limit was 275. I used WORR paint and it worked very well, although it was HUGE. The marker came with a 2 piece barrel with a .690 bore and it was to small. I pulled out the hammerhead with a .693 fin and let her rip. It was a great day. I'm still learning this airball/speedball thing, but I'm hooked and will enjoy the best of both worlds.

Re: Proto Rail vs Invert Mini vs DP Fusion vs Epiphany

I'd say the Mini or the Fusion would be the best bet. If the PMR was thrown in there I'd say to go for that. It's not much more than the SLG, but it's superior in performance and upgradability.

Re: Proto Rail vs Invert Mini vs DP Fusion vs Epiphany

Out of those guns I would go with the DP Fusion (F8). If you don't like the fusion then I would then go with the PMR. The PMR has an PM8 board and operates on 150 psi ( with my tank I can get 2,000 to 2,200 shots of a full tank!) You can get a special edition urban camo PMR for 285$ at PunishersPB.com, the SE PMR comes with all metal parts except for the plastic grip frame.

I have a PMR with UL frame, metal back cap, DXS pulse ( gun has rf chip), 4500/70ci Crossfire hp fiberglass wrapped tank, hammerhead barrel kit. This set up is great and is super accurate. I can balance it with one finger under the gun behind the grip frame. the only problem I have with is there is a little kick.
