Re: Bad Knee - Advice?

This past June I had orthoscopc surgery on my knee to fix a miniscal tear I had. I lost 80% of my medial miniscus( the inside of my knee). As apart of my rehab my doctor had a custom equalizer brace made for me(thank god for insurance). Thats what I use whenever my knee acts up, until I can afford to take the time off to have the new tear fixed....26 and Im in-line for a new knee altogether.

Re: Bad Knee - Advice?

got lost for a sec....don joy knee braces. there kinda expensive, but they are worth it. they have athletic models for running, jumping, etc... might want to look into that.

Re: Bad Knee - Advice?

Bad knees here as well, with no cartilage it could be the start of arthritis.I have sever arthritis in both my knees and there is not a hole lot that can be done for it.I have had cortisone shots in both my knees and it worked OK for about a month.Next step for me is some simvis shots, it's some kind of synthetic lubricant that is put in to the joints.I am 42 and the doc won't even consider knee replacements because I'm to young.(they are only good for 10yrs)I do a lot of stretches before I play and it dose seem to help a little.but the next couple of days are brutal with the pain.

Did you talk to your doctor about titanium replacements? From what I have been told, I can either keep having miniscus removed until its bone on bone, or just have my knee replaced and not have to worry about it again.

Re: Bad Knee - Advice?

Ok, my two cents....

First take a look at wrestling knee braces/pads. I'm not sure what the if that's what they are called, but my girlfriend gave me a pair ( they were son's) and they rock! They support the knees and have pretty good padding to boot! I also take a joint suppliment; it helps. Also look into light weight training to strengthen the joints. Hope this helps.

'til later, Tangent

No he never mentioned them,Besides I was told that I would be out of action for a few months with surgery and rehab and I just can't do that.I'm the only one that works in the family.

Re: Bad Knee - Advice?

Wow, there are several of us with knee problems. My knees are trashed from weight and abuse. I've tried several of the braces and only one type did me any good. They wrap around your leg right below your knee cap, and they take the edge off. Ive never tried supplements but im looking into starting. When im sitting and straighten my leg (either of them), it sounds and feels like i have gravel grinding in my knees...

For anyone who doesnt have bad knees or back or any other problem, take care of your body. The abuse WILL catch up with you. Just my .02
