Re: Bad Knee - Advice?

I'm sure you'll be able to keep playing. You just may need to change your style of play. Stay in the back and provide covering fire. Limit yourself to a brisk walk between pieces of cover.

By the way, forget about World of Warcraft. Everquest 2 is much better.

But in the event that you decide you don't want to play paintball anymore...

Can I have your stuff?

Re: Bad Knee - Advice?

You mentioned not being able to play anymore.. All I have to say about that is welcome to the ranks of us crunchy knee'd fellers... we move slow, play in the back and feel the flatline barrel was invented for us haha. Keep your chin up bro, you will be back at it in no time. I almost blew water out of my nose while taking a big drink and reading you say you may decide to NOT play paintball... thats not gonna happen. When im 90 years old and cant walk, ill be running around on my sup'ed up rascal playing front!!!

Re: Bad Knee - Advice?

So I came across this forum thanks to my roommate, we both have ACL tears, just slightly different stories. My roommate Will Orangataun Haus was playing B-Ball and was boxing out a bigger man against the wall under the basket, and then they shifted to one side, and his knee kept going and popped out of socket and tore his ACL completely. While I, in my infinite boredom during exams decided to join a couple of my female friends in playing hop scotch to kill some time before dinner. Generally not a bad idea for lighter people, but start adding long jumps, a sandy brick pathway, and borderline 300 lb ex-lineman, and we have bad combination. So for my final jump I tried to clear the 6' "dead mans zone" we marked, and land off centered on my right leg. At that point I heard three loud pops, and fell to the ground feeling as if a small plastic explosive charge had just been set off in my knee. I was then rushed to the Duke Emergency care center where they took a couple Xrays, told me it was not broken and most likely only sprained. Well I did my suggested PT and stayed on it only lightly and on crutches for the recomended 3 weeks, then proceeded to play football. Well after trying to run a comeback route as WR and falling to the ground in pain I realized that I may not be 100%. Well about 3 months later a couple games of B-Ball and walking across Philidelphia I finally decided to get an MRI done, my doc comes back with my results and asks me if I was sure I had done this 3 months ago, cause by all means I should not have been walking. It turns out on my fall I completely tore my ACL and 3/4 seperated the front of my medial meniscus from the rest of it. I'm now in my ninth month of recouperation from the surgery, and still get nasty pops and ratcheting from the whole deal, but I'm staying active on my pb team, and with little to no meds since the week after surgery. Ah Youth

Re: Bad Knee - Advice?

Well I'm right at the end of my rehab period, so I can finally start trying to push for more. I'm really looking forward to being able to run again. I can hardly jog now, but after the real serious rehab begins, I should be able to get back up to my original speeds.

Re: Bad Knee - Advice?

I went to physical therapy for mine. I'm only 22. I have the "theater sign." Sitting like you would at a theater, my knees start feeling like there is pressure building. They crack everytime I squat, they crack if I plant my feet and "twist" a little. They hurt when I drive for more than 30 minutes, I wear my combat boots to work and school because they provide better support. There were some exercises I did at the therapy place to help build the muscle around my knees.

Lay on my back, life one leg up to like a 30-40 degree angle, lower it. Did that like 3 sets of 15 reps on each leg.

Another one was to do the same thing but point my toes out. Right leg, toes point right, not forward. That one you can feel the burn. They seemed to help quite a bit.

I still wear knee braces all of the time, though. I think I wore out my knees already. I'm waiting for the option they have for knee replacement that includes the na-na-na-na-na sound effect like the 6 million dollar man.

Re: Bad Knee - Advice?

I got a few knew problems here. You know just your basic MCL tear, tendonitis, hyperextention and two bone contusions. I just wear my brace, ice it while not doing anything, and take a prescription dose of aleve. Thats what works for me most of the time.

Re: Bad Knee - Advice?

1) until you can get to a doctor get a cheapo neoprene knee supporter.
2) go to the doctor... you don't need a knee bad as mine.
3) in the end you'll probably need a full knee supporter w/ some form of lateral support.
4) If you're lucky your Dr. will give you a mild excerise routine that will strengthen the lateral muscles in your knee for extra support.

That's the treatment that I got & have been putting off surgery for about 10 years now though they said I will eventually need it.
