| Re: Bulk Up or Slim down - How To Quote:
The reality is that while men who are 20 and 50 CAN have similar metabolic rates when they eat similar healthy foods most don’t. Also to get your metabolic rates to similar levels it takes more than simply a diet change. Body type also helps determine a great many things as well as other outside (as well as internal) factors.I have found that an unrealistic expectation, given ALL factors, tends to be the biggest problem facing people. We also live in an “instant” society where if you want something just click a button and it is yours. Being fit, and even healthy, is not that way. And it takes real dedication and commitment (yeah, I know…. in today’s society? LOL) as well as time. True results often take far longer to see for the average person than they think it will. And I think that is because people simply expect too much too soon. Again, it is the “expectations” thing. I also believe that our society is not overweight just because we have processed foods. It is the change in diets as well as decrease in activity that caused the problem; and over several generations it becomes an issue of genes.. which will take several more generations to even back out IF folks do what they need to do . You can’t fix it by only addressing one part of the issue. It is relatively easy to change your diet if you want, but that will not make you fit by itself. And there is a good portion of people who by doing nothing but increasing their activities would reach their reasonable goals. So the answer is not always so black and white. Sure, it is great to have a place to start from. But to dismiss all the other factors out there can be problematic at best. And I think folks will find that if they talked to Doctors, Nutritionists, and certified Trainers they will see what I have posted echoed. But I too, like yourself, believe that EVERYONE can be fit… if they are willing to work at it. There is no magic pill or silver bullet though. And unfortunately THAT is the biggest barrier to overcome. I also don’t think you disagree with what I have posted. I just felt the need to highlight some things which I have seen become stumbling blocks for people, and the reasons why ![]()

| Re: Bulk Up or Slim down - How To As a general guideline for someone new to working out its good advice. Maybe not perfect for everyone. But a good start. As far as nutrition, I think the Body For Life diet is a good one. Its a balanced diet that has the multiple smaller meals. Just my opinion. |
