J&J better than a good paint-barrel size match

So I did a little experiment the other day. I have a J&J ceramic 1 peice 12", and the Titanium Longbow with .687 and .684 sized barrel backs. I had a box of stinger paint, which was dimpled, and not all that round and stuff.... it sucked. But anyway, i thought what the hey, lets see what barrel is better given the same paint and same marker. The paint slipped right through the .689 sized J&J with ease... so too big. It snagged a little in the .687... probably good. It fit real snug in the .684 sized barrel. In my experience, both the .687 and .684 were about the same as far as accuracy goes, which wasn't great at all. The J&J however, was very much better, like night and day. Ended up playing the rest of the day with the J&J and had great success on the battlefield.

Now I have agreed with the common accepted theory that sizing your paint to your barrel gets the best accuracy. The only explanation I can think of is that the paint I had was so crappy and inconsistant that it was better not to match the paint to the barrel size and just go with a larger barrel so as to reduce adding any possible spin on the irregularly shaped balls.

I would have liked to have seen how a PPS Brass would have done against those two with that paint.

Re: J&J better than a good paint-barrel size match

I haven't bother matching my paint to my barrel in years. I just do the typical speedball/pbn method of getting a .691 back and just using that as I can shoot any paint thats not badly swollen, and unless the paint itself is bad I've never really noticed a lack of accuracy.

i guess it depends alot on where you live.

Here in Chicago, its ALWAYS humid... the only time your paint isn't swelling is when its wintertime... even at night, humid... you're first hopper of paint is probably going to be what came out of the box but after that everythign gets so hot ... you cant help but use a larger bore size

Im from rockford homie, and it's especially bad with all the rain this year. But here's a trick for you. Get a 10 lb bag of ice, and a large cooler, lay a layer of plastic sheeting over the ice, and then a towel folded in half over that. Make sure the drain plug is open so the water is drained. Use this to store your paint in and it will stay between 60-75 degrees all day (I'm anal retentive and keep an outdoor thermometer in there as well.

Hope this helps, as I haven't had a problem with paint since i've started doing it!
