Re: Barrel kit choices for Twigz?

Just so you know J&J barrels are very very light. My 14" UL weighs more than my 16" full tilt.

Re: Barrel kit choices for Twigz?

Call me old fashioned, but I prefer my barrel to be a solid bit of metal, not a swap-in arrangement.

I know a guy who owns a freak kit, though, and according to him the inserts are SUPER fragile. He has apparently dented quite a few just from them rolling off a table.

Personally I would advocate a one-piece barrel like a JJ ceramic, Brass, or Stiffi/C-series.

Re: Barrel kit choices for Twigz?

I have heard of the same thing with the freak system which is why I strayed away frominsert type barrels. And it makes sense why. the threads have to be a certain thickness so looking at any a5 barrel, think of an insert that is half as thick, which comes out to very little.

Re: Barrel kit choices for Twigz?

I have the full freak kit and the J&J edge elite. I actually bought the freak kit from a guy on here. Was extremely happy with it till my Elite kit came in the mail. I will never put the freak on my A5 again. Not that it is bad, just the J&J is more accurate and looks 100 times better. Just as Silent mentioned, they are extremely light but very durable. The only down fall is the powder coat. It scratches very easily. All in all, I love the J&J and will never shot anything else.

Re: Barrel kit choices for Twigz?

Try a Python compression system. I love mine. They are cheaper than most barrel kits. You can use any barrel you want. Works a lot better than the freak system. You can also get one to go from A5 threads to AC threads. Best adaptor that you can buy. I have tried some of the other adaptors (Lapco & Full boar) and they just don't work.

A buddy of mine and myself tried one at the Monster Game this past July and neither of us was impressed with it at all. I ended up borrowing a J&J Elite kit from another friend for the day.

Re: Barrel kit choices for Twigz?

For the price, I would have to say that the Elite is the one I'd pick in that selection. I haven't really heard anyone rave about the Freak Jr, although the full Freak gets lots of praise. If you go that route, I would absolutely recommend stainless inserts over aluminum, not only for durability but also b/c the harder metal results in a smoother bore giving more consistent accuracy and shot groups. I don't know much about the Empire except that, if it is what I am thinking of, they changed the design in '07 and the results were less than favorable against the older version.

Re: Barrel kit choices for Twigz?

I have a Freak kit and i have no problems with it. I just keep the aluminum inserts in a bag so they don't go falling off somewhere, I've had no issues with damaging them.
