Building a Shroud over the Apex

To all you experiece modders out there!

WOuld like to know how you guys built your shrouds over the apex. @ main questions that i would need your opinion or solutions on
1) How do you lock the outer PVC of alluminium barrel on the marker barrel? Screw it on? I wanna try yo avoid scratching the JJ ceramics if possible.

2) How do you make the lever that adjust the ramp on the apex. With the shroud on and a slid cut into it aligned with the slider, i am still unable to move the slider back and forth as its still too short.

Suggestions and pictures guys.

I had access to a lathe, so I went that route. I wanted to make mine out of alum so that it would be stronger and protect my barrel if I fell or something. What I did was make an adapter from the shroud to the barrel adapter on the A5 (where you screw in the barrel) and then drill and tap 4 holes for set screws. I will have pictures up tomorrow at some time.

Thanks. That would be great help. What about the APEX adjustment lever. Any clue on how to extend that. My first thought was to cut a larger hole but i am the kinda guy and a sucker for looks. So currently my A5 weighs a ton

You might want to try Panda86's Fake Suppressor Mod. You might be able to make it, slide it on from the back, and simple have the apex the same size as the silencer, or just have the apex fit just barely into the fake suppressor. It might be worth a try

Okay, here we go.

Here is my A5 without the shroud, with my brass and Apex.


Here it is with the shroud. I still have yet to finish it as the school year ended before I could finish it all, and I havent painted it yet. The finish you see is from sandblasting it.


It fits the shroud pretty good, I did use 3 layers of electrical tape on the Apex itself to provide a buffer zone.


A close up of the set screws. Not sure what Im going to do here, but there isnt enough room for a counter bore, so I think that Im just going to go with these screws.


The little one is the adapter for the A5. I bored the shroud itself out so that there was a lip for the adapter to stop at. The shroud and adapter fit perfectly, and both are threaded for the screws.


I chucked it up in the mill so that I could put this in. It works fine, I just use my leatherman that is almost always in my pocket to adjust it.


And yes lads, it stays on there pretty darn good. I have no fear of damaging my barrel with this bad boy on there. Its kinda heavy, but hey, whats an A5 for??


I would recommend using PVC for this project as it will be lighter and probably easier to machine for the average joe, but maybe not as strong. I would still make an alum. adapter so that you could actually thread it and not worry about the screws pulling out. This rests on the barrel adapter and apex only (doesnt really touch the Apex though) and at no time comes in contact with the barrel itself.

thats a nice mod. something that i have though of too. but the additional boring is a great suggestion. Anyone know of a way to extend te Apex slider? it would be more covinient to have it ready to slide.

Well, if you had a good friend who liked you lots and had a CNC, they might be able to just make you a whole new one, but those chances are kinda moot. Ive thought about it, but most of my ideas wont work because they either wouldnt get enough grip on the adjuster or they would interfere with the first and last settings.

same here! still trying to figure that part out! By the way, do you have a pic of your barrel adapter? did you drill it as well?

The barrel adapter that you screw the actual barrel into? That is normal, no drilling, it is the little black nub on the end of your A5.

Thanks. will be modding sometime soon. gat an additional barrel adapter just in case! May just make a little indent for the screws to hold on to!

is yours painted yet? Will let oyu know if i come out with anything on the apex slider.
