Re: New Tippmann/Hammerhead Barrel

Cool, thanks for the reply. Yes, I know the "fins" dictate what size ball you use. Seeing as the fins are 2 inches long and the barrel is about 12-14 inches, I just wanted to keep my paintballs as close to the actual barrel size as I am presuming you would achieve the best results this way. Obviously, fin first, barrel second. I bought one of these Straightline barrels. It's in the mail, so I've yet to try it. I also bought the 2 extra fins(the 2 bigger sizes, which sounds like they will be closer to the actual bore of the barrel size) from hammerhead.

Re: New Tippmann/Hammerhead Barrel

I can see the logic in that... If you always get to choose your paint. However, the fin system was designed for when you don't always get that choice, i.e. field paint. The accuracy won't go down with the control bore of the barrel being larger than the paint, as it's already been started off with a near perfect match.

Re: New Tippmann/Hammerhead Barrel

Yeah. I play mostly "bush ball", so I don't have to pay those high prices for field paint. I do have to look into some good paint for hammerhead/straightline barrels. I don't want to spend a ton, I know marbalizer is really good, but it's a bit out of my price range. I guess I'll just have to test a bunch out. Good ol trial and error.

I have used marbs for years but have recently switched to "Visual Impact" from of all places, WALMART. Very good quality, smaller dia,(been using a .684 insert, a bit on the tight side) tougher shell than marbs, (haven't seen any bounces yet), and best of all it's cheap!!! $38. case.
Would be great to get some feed back on the performance of your Straightline as many of us are interested in this barrel but waiting for more first hand reviews.

Re: New Tippmann/Hammerhead Barrel

Yeah, I can definitly post something. I just want to make sure I'm get the best paint match possible for optimal results. I'll have to take a look around. It seems all the stores in my area carry different brands of paint. There doesn't seem to be a huge selection.

I have used walmart visable impact paint in all my barrels (including 4 hammerheads) with nothing but great results. It also works wonders with a flatline

Re: New Tippmann/Hammerhead Barrel

Isn't .688 a bit too small for this kit? I mean compared to the j&j and freak kit. I want to get one but I noticed most of the guys I play with that has a freak barrel kit will use .693. I have no experience in using a barrel kit so I'm really debating on what kit to buy. So far it's between the freak jr., j&j edge and now this.

Re: New Tippmann/Hammerhead Barrel

No. Flatlines shoot further because they put backspin on the ball, causing it to 'float' on the air. This will shoot as far as any other normal barrel. The difference is accuracy.

Re: New Tippmann/Hammerhead Barrel

Sounds like a good idea from Tippmann, but I still think the J&J Edge Elite Kit is by far the best bang for your buck.
