The barrel works flawlessly, it sounds more like a paint problem. You should check into better paint and warmer climates before you judge the barrel.

yep, I was having the same problem(about adjusting stuff and I JUST CAN'T SEEM TO FIND A SMALL ENOUGH HEX KEY FOR THE FRONT SIGHT!!!!) I think I might have even ****ed up the front sight screw.... anyways so yeah I started looking at stuff and apparently BT has rather large bore sizes in their barrels, if you go to the BT website and to the Q & A thing, they tell you there that the combat barrel comes in a .692 bore size, I would expect for BT to use a standard size barrel for their lineup, so probably the Apex Barrel and the BT M16 Apex barrel come in also .692 bores in that case go play in a hot place

Keep the Apex and get a better barrel and an adapter for the apex. Palmers Brass is the best bet, it doesn't care about the paint. Bad paint is still bad paint though.
