Re: Hammerhead or Palmer Brass

I voted for the Hammer, mainly because that is what I have experience with. Another option and one that is probably easier to find at the local store is the Lapco Bigshot.

At the moment I only have the one fin for my Hammerhead (ordering the full kit soon) and if I don't have a good paint fit the Hammer comes off and the Bigshot goes on. Fantastic barrel and very forgiving of paint match. Smoothest bore I ever saw. It is even difficult to look through at direct light. Very wierd effect.

You can't. It would be like comparing a crappy hybrid car to a formula one race car.

Re: Hammerhead or Palmer Brass

I just purchased the 5-fin torpedo HH kit, If you can get your size right, and your velocity right, it turns your marker into a tack driver at ~80ft. This means one shot and if its off you can adjust and the next is a hit (this is with no sights). I love mine.

Now, if you will be shooting crappy paint, and dont want chops(mixed bags, old balls, brass eagle ^^) the smoother and larger size bore the better. So the PB would be the choice.

In conclusion, if you take the time to buy your paint, and size it... then adjust your gun, you will love plinking people with 1-2 shots and the rest of their squad not being sure where you are. (i play woodsball, cant comment on speedball etc...)

Re: Hammerhead or Palmer Brass

I chose the Palmer for its paint digesting ability, it'll eat anything and come up smiling. I almost got the HH but thought of all the field paint events I want to go to and got the Palmers. And an Apex for long ballin'. Shooting standing up, like at a target range and getting guys out while their balls land at your feet or bounce off, priceless .

But, if I had the choice of my own paint all the time, I'd get the HH.

Re: Hammerhead or Palmer Brass

I do not have both, however i have a 14" CP smoothie that i used to shoot anything i wasnt sure about... I will say the eliptical honing sounds like a definate plus for making smooth bores more accurate.

I will also note, that with my smooth bore i can shoot all day and not cheese one. But my HH has so far cheesed 4 because of A. shoddy balls (dimples and bad seems) and B. My velocity was a bit higher than it should have been.

thanks for the welcome.

Re: Hammerhead or Palmer Brass

Even if I had the choice of paint, I would still get the Palmer Brass. It is damn near dead on accurate with crappy paint, so I'd imagine it would be that, if not better with great paint. Not to mention you can get it for as little as 45 bucks. Heck, you could deck the thing out and still have a barrel less than 120 bucks. Most barrel kits are more than that.

Re: Hammerhead or Palmer Brass

If the PBB is that cheap I may get it just to compare.

I play with a 30 rnd. hopper and being able to take guys out within a 1-3 burst is great with the HH.

Re: Hammerhead or Palmer Brass

disclaimer: I only own the palmer brass.

firing with co2/stabalizer/and response trigger at 10-12 bps I can make a 3inch square on target at 75 feet. The balls leterally look like they are landing right on top of each other.

Add to that the customer service and guarantee from palmer's pursuit shop for a barrel that cost $45, there just isn't a substitute. I can't say about the hammerhead, but I won't ever need to. The palmer is the only barrel I will ever use now.
