Barrel Shroud opinion

After looking all through this site yesterday, I became a member and I was so pumped to find all the good stuff here. It is a very popular, nice, and highly useful forum, so let me first say thank you.

So, anyways, I just got an A5 the other day and I am getting a J&J ceramic (have one, but it is a spyder threaded ). So after I get that, I am going to buy a shroud for it and was wondering if you guys/girls could stae you personal opinion on which idea you like more. Or any other ideas/comments are always welcomed and appreciated.

My first ideais the trinity M16 barrel and shroud. I would take out the trinity and use my J&J instead. (You can view it at actionvillage, it is 80$) (I can't copy and paste here I guess).

My second idea is to use a M8A21 barrel shroud. This one goes all the way back on the top of gun, giving it a sight rail. (you can view this at opsgear)

I would like rails on the barrel shroud, or something, so I can connect a bipod to it.

But anyways. Those two options are all I got right now, if you have any ideas or comments, let me know.

Thanks

Re: Barrel Shroud opinion

First of all welcome to the Forum.
I currently use the Opsgear Raider hand guard. It has rails on 4 sides.

Re: Barrel Shroud opinion

Hey. Thanks for the welcome, and thanks for the comment.

I kind of always thought that when they said hand guard, they were talking about a replacement for the stock handle that comes on the A5.

Anyways, thanks again, and I will look into it more.

Re: Barrel Shroud opinion

the m82 is a very nice kit. i dont have one but ive seen them..i like how it covers upt he body of the a5 so im not looking at an mp5 mody with m16 accessories. my only complaint about the m82 is it kind of looks like its not to scalle...like its a bit stubbier. but a m82 with collapsible stock i think looks beste with m82 mag kit.

Re: Barrel Shroud opinion

i would either go with the lapco machiengun shroud or not use a shroud as shrouds only add weight but provide protectionf or yur barrel itll also make changing our ur barrel take slightly more time.

Re: Barrel Shroud opinion

I have the M82 shroud and it looks mean. However it adds 2 lbs to your A5, requires you get a stock and somewhat limits your barrel choices.

Re: Barrel Shroud opinion

Well, first of all I think you should answer the question of is you want looks or for it to be functionable. Not to say that some don't have both, but ultimately are you going for something to look sweet on its own, or something with rails so that you can add mods to the rail? From there it'll narrow down your choices pretty decently.

Re: Barrel Shroud opinion

The M82A1 shroud is nice, but like BnF said, it's heavy. My teammate bought one. Humped across the field with it for about half a day and took it off his A-5. It was just too heavy. Of course, he wasn't a big guy. I understand the real thing is pretty weighty as well.

I think it depends on what look you are going for. A simple sniper rifle? M-4? A heavy duty sniper rifle? Just something Milsim-ish. That's the question you need to ask yourself.

Personally, I'd probably get the trinity shroud or the Spec Ops FOG shroud.

I looked at the lapco site and I can't find any shrouds on there. I'm intrested in what it looks like.

Re: Barrel Shroud opinion

Whoa... lots of responses all of a sudden!

Thank you all very much for your opinions and advice.

To clarify some things up: I play woodsball, and my tactics are kind of sitting and waiting. Now I am not a "sniper" and just sit and wait for my prey, because I like to move around, wait a few mintues, relocate and wait a few minutes . . . but I also am not always on the move.

I want my gun to be semi assault. One where it will be effective when at rest, and also one I can shoot and run with.

I have a feeling that this gun might be on the heavy side. I want a bipod eventually, a sight, maybe mag, stock, ect. Basically some stuffs for looks that don't add a whole lot of effectiveness to it.

I like M82 shroud because it gives you the rails all down your gun, good for sights, bipods, etc. I just realized however, the shroud goes all the way back covering your stock which IMO, looks dumb.

What's the difference between a foregrip and a shroud? They look the same but it says you need the shroud to get the foregrip as an upgrade?

Thanks again everyone!
