In my quest to find the most accurate barrel out there without sacrificing the distance I can get with the Apex, I decided to get the Palmer's Brass Barrel along with their adapter.

When I first got it, I was impressed with the quality of this adapter, yet disappointed that I actually just dropped $30 on this. The grooves are almost identical to the grooves on the original Apex barrel and cut very well. I say almost because the grooves which hold the o-rings are slighter bigger on the original barrel. The two screws that came with it are white (as seen in below)

The threads in one of the holes wasn't cut very well so the screw just wouldn't grip. I also didn't really like the idea of having these 2 white nubbins sticking out from my barrel. So I tried to see how it fit without the screws.

The adapter fit fairly well onto the brass without the screws but could be pulled off with only a little bit of force. So I put a piece of scotch tape about 1/2 inch long onto the barrel to give it a little extra thickness. It worked like a charm. Now the adapter is nice and tight on the barrel without the need for the screws.

So I slapped on the Apex tip and discovered that without the o-rings, the Apex would rotate around the adapter very easily. So much, that I was afraid it would move with the force of the paintballs hitting it. After moving the o-rings from the original barrel to the adapter, it was perfect. I could easily rotate the Apex tip just in case I wanted to try those "curve around trees and divebomb shots" but not so much that it would on its own. The adapter did not rotate around the barrel at all.

In conclusion, I would give this an 8/10 only because of the price. I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives such as using a piece of PVC pipe but I tried that on my JJ and since I could never sand it down evenly, I wasn't happy with it. If you are looking to add an Apex tip to your Brass, then this product will be perfect after some very simple mods.

Here's what it looks like on my humble A5.

Edit: Sorry guys, I really wanted to post my results but due to the cold weather (and possible faulty brass barrel) I was getting a lot of paint breaks. So I can't give an accurate review since even with the Apex dialed off, I was getting wingers and breaks. I just didn't bring enough rags to completely clean the paint which probably contributed to more breaks..... Just a bad day to play I guess.

Edit: Well, I finally got to play with my Apex'd Palmer in warm weather and all I can say is WOW. The accuracy on the distance shots was improved enough to notice a difference as compared to the original Apex barrel. With the Apex off, the accuracy of the brass was way better than the stock, but that's already a well known fact.

Re: Apex to 13/16 or Palmer adapter

Its unfortunate you had these problems.

I had a horrible misshapen UMS adapter the first time I bought one. However UMS gladly took the return and sent me one of the expected quality.

I'm sure if you contacted Palmer, they would be just as accommodating in fixing your problems.

It actually worked out better, because it made me think of a way to get the adapter to fit onto the barrel without using the screws. How does the UMS one look? They don't have a picture of it and I read reviews that it was essentially black PVC pipe.

Re: Apex to 13/16 or Palmer adapter

The UMS adapter is just a precisely machined piece of delrin that the Apex tip clamps over.

Some people like to create their own out of pvc, but its so easy to get something like that out of alignment. The second most important thing for an adapter is to allow the tip to clamp onto the barrel perfectly straight.

Told another guy I'd post up on warpig about it. Warpig is one of my favorite forums to head over to, the mods do a great job of keeping it clean and the warpig web site has awesome reviews
