Sorry for the mini rant but that is BS.

Whoever said there was a shortage? There's simply more demand for the product than every before. There is plenty of oil left on this planet which can be drilled for and refined into the usable product we need.

Yes, I know some "experts" (for lack of a better forum appropriate word) will tell you that there is a shortage when indeed there is not. Maybe if you talk about where we will be at in 100 years, but for the next half century, we have plenty to go around which is MORE than enough time to get alternatives in full motion.

Re: What's your GAS PRICE up to - and the location?!!

Hmm...I guess I haven't done any research but maybe it's me...I guess I just don't understand why prices are going up so much...Like they say on the news sometimes where there is a shortage because an oil rig had to do maintenance....so prices spike just because of that...that kind of stuff just blows my mind....I was putting like $70/week in my truck just to get to work and back....I guess I just think it's insane how the price has gone up so much! I don't think it's due to the dollar bill not doing well since we are seeing foreclosures rising, debt increasing and unemployment rising. I think the next prez has his/her hands full when they get into office!! Just my 2 cents!

So I figured I would do my part and just bought myself a motorcycle since it's so gas efficient - and now it's only costing me about $8/week to fill....I can't do any carpooling since my job requires a little traveling throughout the day and I never know what exact time I will be done with work....

Don't be fooled into thinking that all the oil companies are doing is raking in the money, stuffing their pockets and lighting their fine cigars with 100 dollar bills...its not like that at all.

While their profits are through the roof, so are their taxes. Did you know that if you add up the total amount of taxes paid by ALL Americans in 2007 that the oil companies alone paid half of that number? Thats at roughly 35% already, what more do you want?

Did you know that the major oil companies are do not have s single owner getting crazy rich off those 40 billion quarterly profits? The top dog of Exxon Mobile owns around 2% of the company. The rest of made up of stocks, bonds, pensions, 401k, mutual funds ect...take away the profits? Who will you be taking them away from? You own retirement plan!

Combine that with the fact that the American Dollar is not doing so well, the price per barrel has to raise as our dollar drops so compensate the value difference, demand is rising for oil in many other developing countries...and its a FREE MARKET...

How can anyone say anything about their profits? Don't buy into the flavor of the month argument on this topic. The popular belief is that Oil companies are raking in the money and taking us to task. Reality will show that this is isn't the case and common sense tells you that there isn't anything we can do about it anyways because they have every right to make a profit.

We need to fix our dollar before we can expect to see gas prices drop and or combine that with getting more oil into the marker, faster.

Looked this morning. $3.67 at the corner station (not the lowest). I'd say on average about $3.65 in town. Lowest would be $3.62 at the BP in the center of town.

I shouldn't even say because it will change soon. Last time I checked, gas was at about $3.84 a gallon for mid-grade and diesel was about $4.20 a gallon. I'm 14 and I'm afraid at what the gas prices are going to be when I drive.

Re: What's your GAS PRICE up to - and the location?!!

Thankfully I drive a small truck, a Toyota Tacoma, and live a full four minutes from work, so I use almost no gasoline each week. Downside is that I fill up so infrequently, the increased cost of each fill almost puts me in cardiac arrest. I carry an AED in my truck, put it on the front seat every time, just in case - no joke.

A couple friends of mine know way more about national and world economics than I ever will. What they tell me completely supports Millsane's statement. If they are correct, then as long as the US dollar weakens gas prices will increase. One of them told me about this a long time ago, before prices started going completely nuts, and said there is actually a larger benefit when this happens, that it's part of "the plan", it just takes a little while and a fair amount of suffering before we see the results and benefit from it. I hope he's right.
