And some of you thought you had pest problems. Look at the birds I have to deal with around my house!





Normally we just have F-16's in the skies, but in the past two weeks there's been an increase of Strike Eagles around. We've had a few 22's as well, but I didn't have my camera out at the time. I'll see what else I can capture in the next few days.

This reminds me of childhood, growing up just outside the AFB where the B-52's (I think) were headquartered. Heard them revving up every day. Around the same time we heard sonic booms almost every day - different plane.

That plane looks well armed. Target training nearby?

It sometimes gets old pretty fast. If it weren't for TiVo I'd miss a fair amount of dialog on TV. It's even better when they practice hi-performance takeoffs at 0100 hours ( F-16 afterburners are rather loud! ) Then again I can watch air shows from my backyard too. I wish I had my current camera last year when the T-Birds were flying.


I'm less than 2 miles south of Hill AFB and I think they have a policy against supersonic flight directly around the base and under a couple thousand feet. I've heard a few boom, but it was only when Falcons were flying pretty high overhead. It gets real interesting when they take off literally right on top of you.

I can't figure how to show a Google map here, just search for "Hill AFB" and look at the SE corner of it. Look right where the runway starts/stops! I take that road, and the turn right at the end of the runway, rather often. I had a jet go right over the top of me ( couldn't have been more than a couple hundred feet high, ) and I thought someone had slammed into the back of my car before I realized what it was.


The West Desert target range more than likely. It's right by the Great Salt Lake.

Yea, I think you're right. When I said, "childhood" I was talking way back, might have been 40 years ago. For a while hearing a boom was a common occurrence, seems I remember hearing something about a ban.

We used to have similar "problems" when I picked up an off-base aprtment near Oceana NAS. All the homeowners were complaining about the noise pollution...but I'll bet they weren't complaining when they bought the house for a fraction of what they would have paid elsewhere.
