Mountain Bikes! Or bikes in general...

I just finished building my dream bike, 2003 Foes Fly. Here's the pictures, from start to finish...

Started out with just a frame...

Finally got a build kit and the front fork...

And she's DONE!

Shock sex:

Good old Hayes Mags:

Here's what you get for $1700:

2003 Foes Fly (the "good" year)
2004 888R w/ Risse Racing Flat crowns and Marzocchi compression sleeve - nearly brand new
Curnutt - best shock out there, period.
8" Hayes Mags
Sram Drivetrain
Truvativ Holzfeller Cranks/Bash Ring/Chainring
Front Wheel: Alex Supra D laced to a Formula 20 mm hub
Rear Wheel: Alex Supra D laced to an Astrix 10mm hub
Maxxis High Rollers

This is the initial build, just to get the bike up and running/riding. I just got a new job at a bike shop so I'll be putting on an E-13 SRS chain guide with some spare Saint cranks I have and some better platforms, other than that the bike is perfect to me. I know the last picture is backwards, it's from my Macbook...

So, any other A5OG'ers bike?

Re: Mountain Bikes! Or bikes in general...

I used to, until I trashed my..I think it was fourth wheelset at the end of highschool, was too broke to fix it, and kinda faded out of it during college.

The frustrating bit is that I recently pulled my bike out to overhaul it and get back on the trails ... and could someone please tell me what happened to non-disc-brake specific wheels and hubs??

Disc brakes happened. They used to be expensive, but now are so cheap that it makes no sense to have rim brakes because discs just are that much better.

I put up some new pictures of the ride, and took it out today on her first real trail ride. Got to hit up some dirt jumps on the way back and even a few stair gaps, the bike is great in the air.

That bike looks streamlined. I'd like to see that in a wind tunnel. Very cool. I own a bike that shifts automatically; thats the pinnacle of my bike coolness. Lame, I know.

Re: Mountain Bikes! Or bikes in general...

It's no aerodynamic star, but it sure is fun to take off any jump. Highest drop so far has been 9' off of the side of some stairs downtown, other than that it's mostly riding to and from work. Not much fun for work, but it's a blast in the air.

Re: Mountain Bikes! Or bikes in general...

Sweet looking bike, not my thing though. I would like to try serious downhilling, but I can't afford the injuries while supporting the family. I ride all the time, all XC stuff though. I'm currently riding a 2004 Fisher Cake 3 that I added Avid BB7 disc and Mavic 317's to, also have a Fisher HT too. I'm lucky enough to live in one of the MTB heavens, WNC!!
