I usually don't peruse the random room, so I'm not sure if this is considered appropriate, but I wanted to see what people thought of the ruling. I live in Chicago, and this could really change things for me if the NRA goes after Chicago like they are saying they will. My neighborhood isn't the safest (but certainly not the worst), and I really have very little options for protection.

You must be speaking about the handgun ban? My opinion........look at what it did for D.C. I rest my case. Lol.

im from chicago , but living in wisconsin , whats going on down there? whats the nra got to do with anything? im pretty sure if your talking about anything with a paintball marker nra doesnt have any say. markers are cover by atf, any there the only ones that can say paintball guns are legal or not, but like i said im not sure what your talking about!

? um from what the ruling was, they ruled 5-4 in FAVOR of personal firearms (handgun) rights. They will never ban personal firearms (handguns/semi-auto firearms), unless they are of automatic/repeating nature. The argument for those is sound, as they are NOT necessary for protection/hunting/etc. Handguns will not be banned, and the NRA will not allow them to be. This goes directly against the second amendment, and thus the judges upheld this ruling, and said DC cannot enforce the handgun ban. I believe what you read is either misinformation, or misinterpreted.

This article was from last year, but the appeal case was just settled in the supreme court as I stated previously.

As of tuesday, the supreme court upheld the ruling that it is unconstitutional, and the ban is to be lifted in DC.. We are safe folks, we are safe. On a side note, Rockford (where I'm from) has just passed the first phase of a public conceal and carry law, in hopes of bringing our crime rate to that of texas'. (we have the highest violent crime rate in all of illinois.... you chi town boys still got it easy).

the day they actually pass a law banning firearms , there is going to be a civil war everywhere in the USA! and if that happens i dontthink the president will approved the military to fire on us people! like raptor said the cant ban firearms because of the second amendment! if they do this country will go to war with it self! and im a multiple firearm owner i have a foid card as well as a federal permit to have automatic firearms they banned anything i hate to see the guy thats coming to my house and trying to take away my rifles and pistols! i have an aauto ar-15 that says no one will take my guns!

I've been looking for this little stat for days concerning the DC ban:

"There were 143 gun-related murders in Washington last year (2007), compared with 135 in 1976, when the handgun ban was enacted."

It should go without saying that criminals don't care about gun control laws or any other laws for that matter...which is why they are criminals. More to the point, when you ban guns like you do in DC only criminals will have guns.

ChicagoJay - You should not have to feel unsafe within your own home. The recent ruling will help.

lets say chicago does have a hand gun ban, thats just gonna make the criminals use bigger weapons etc, rifles, shotguns, so why ban fire arms? just put the people in jail that have them illegally but to that fact i live in wisconsin and you dont have to have a gun License up here which i just found out so you ban them down there, they will jsut come to wisconsin and get them up here, firearms dont kill people, stupid people kill people!

the problem is the black market. People will always be able to get a gun..... all a ban does is restrict lawful, peaceful citizens, from owning them (thus being defenseless against predatory individuals). That's why Texas has a statewide conceal law... becase you pull out a gun to rob someone, when they reach in their back pocket, you better make sure it's their wallet they're going for... I'm glad to see they upheld it as unconstitutional, but it does make me edgy that it was 5-4.
