Re: Isaac Hayes Dead at 65

Yeah, it was little known that he was actually an exceptional conductor. My father was a concert promoter in Denver at that time and had to deal with Mr. "Hot Buttered Soul" coming into town (homage follows).....
this was still during much bigotry and Isaac had come into town for an event (I can't remember) but he needed a full orchestra. The orchestra was a white orchestra who sneered at the fact that a soul musician, and black man, was going to come into town and "direct" them.

Well, Mr. Hayes arrived, took the stand and before he started gave a little speech and familiarized the orchestra with what they were about to practice, in getting ready for the concert. This orchestra, apparently, had a hard time keeping up with his fast paced and musically complex compositions and by the end of the day Isaac had earned their respect and the whole air in the building changed. When he was finished that orchestra gave him a standing ovation.

RIP.....thank you for the great music!
