| Less lethal, but still... OUCH! FN 303 This is one of the current 'less lethal' solutions being used at the Nevada Dept. of Corrections. I really hope I'm never on the reciving end of one of these! http://www.fnhusa.com/contents/ll_303.htm Apparently these are pretty accurate... I guess it has something to do with the shape of the ammunition, which isn't completely spherical like a regular paintball. Apparently they'll knock a man down at 100yds. That makes my superficial paintball bruises look pretty weeny ![]()

| Re: Less lethal, but still... OUCH! FN 303 Yeah, and they can come with pepper powder too, just to really ruin your day... Oh, cool! I wonder if they'd sell that compressor/fill station to a paintball type person!

| Re: Less lethal, but still... OUCH! FN 303 Most of these weapons systems are merely the tippmann 98c's, pro-carbines, and once in a while, the a-5, with a forward mounted tank. I bet the corrections departments that use these get raped with the price tag though. Still, I bet using some of those would be very fun. |

| Re: Less lethal, but still... OUCH! FN 303 Well, I work in Public Safety communications. And we get all the faxes for the Sheriff's Office since we are in his building. And I have seen the sales faxes as far as the PepperBalls goes. They most certainly do get rapped on the price. Luckily our SWAT guys train up at my home field alot so they know the deal on the prices of Tippmanns. Pepperballs is something we have never added to our SWAT's bag of tricks. They like the taser and bean bag rounds pretty well.

| Re: Less lethal, but still... OUCH! FN 303 Our officers at Parole and Probation (where I work) have recently been issued Tasers. They seem to like them as well... it's just funny to see them walking around with a big yellow gun on their belt. It's probably only funny until they use it on you though ![]()

| Re: Less lethal, but still... OUCH! FN 303 All these non-lethal devices are simply a means to use force when force is not justified. I feel it breeds a mentality of "Well I can't kill them for doing that, but I can hurt them with this tool." It just makes it far too easy and excusable to use force in unjustifiable situations.

| Re: Less lethal, but still... OUCH! FN 303 No what these less lethals do is keep people from getting seriously hurt. The less lethal is there to protect the officer from getting hurt by the bad guys. And to help protect people from them selves. I will give you a few examples (real examples). 1. crazy guy with a knife is threatening to kill him self, by stabbing himself in the stomach. A taser is used to drop the subject before he can hurt himself or the officers sent there to help him. 2. Crazy guy in a car with a note pined to his chest has a knife and is going to cut his own throat. Most likely he was going to kill his girl friend as well. She was smart enough to jump from the moving vehicle. One of my dispatchers talked to the subject for 25 minutes until the officers could get close enough to the car to smash the window and taser the guy. Girlfriend lived, crazy guy lived and got some help, and officers lived. Was a good day at the office. 3. Crazy guy with a gun is threatening to kill himself or the officers. A been bag round takes him down and he went to jail, then to the mental hospital for a short stay. Again, no one killed, luckily. 4. Huge biker beating on his wife/girl friend. Officers show up and immediatly realise this guy will mop the floor with both of them, and proceeds to tell them this is his intenet. Pepper spray deployed. Big guy is now unable to see. Subject arrested with out having to get stiches or bullet holes repaired. Of course girlfriend jumped on cop's back for arresting biker, and she got to come to the grey bar motel as well. Less lethals are a great tool to keep officers and suspects alike alive and un hurt. Officers deploy force when they have to.

| Re: Less lethal, but still... OUCH! FN 303 I agree, the less than lethal are great tools and keep us in law enforcement safe. And the less than lethal is in the "use of force policies" soft hands, then pepper or tazer, then hard hands/ASP, then as a last resort, and if the officers or someone elses life is in danger, deadly force. Most bad guys do not want to be sprayed or tazed so the mear presents of these tools defuse a bad situation fast. I hate to say it, but; I take offense to the fact that people feel the police (me) are only there for power and sit and think on how we can use the tools we are given to hurt people. When in fact, we help more people with out ever having to use these tools. Nine times out of ten, in bad situations, it only takes a few minutes of talking to people to calm things down and solve the problem. These times are not like back in the 1920's when the police were all corrupt and would take people out behind the shed for street justice. We are highly trained and educated. We will still have a few bad ones every once in a while, but; we have thousands of good ones that put thier lives on the line every day and night because they care about the communities and people. Sorry for the rant, I do not mean to offend anyone. I will now step off my soapbox and return to the normal....... Last edited by Peacekeeper : 12-30-2006 at 08:21 AM. |
