Re: Military Service

College, college, college!!! It will be hard, but try and get it in while you can. If you drop a course due to deployment, there is no penalty. And it is all free. I earned my degree while I was in. It was a pain, but worth it later. Start slow though.

definetely, that's what I had planned to do but as it turned out my job simply has me way to busy for classes and my schedule changes to much as well. So yeah if you have a MOS that allows for it then of course do it! if not then do what you can when you can.

Re: Military Service

It is tough. Especially now that the deployment schedules are ridiculous. It used to be 6 months out, 18 months back. NOw it almost seems switched. That was my main reason for getting out, I never saw the wife.

U.S. Navy 90-94 U.S.S. Concorde Norfolk,V.A., and U.S.S. Nitro Earle, N.J.

Quartermaster 3rd class at time of Honorable discharge. Many times I've regretted not going into the Marines like my uncle who served in Nam. I thought the brotherhood aspect of service extended to the surface fleet. Naive kid I was...

(edit) I neglected to pay homage to those who served before with and after me *Salute* gentlemen

Re: Military Service

This isn't a military branch, but close enough.

I was in the Royal Canadian Air Cadets for 4 years.

Re: Military Service

USAF, 2k1 to present.

I was a prior enlisted Flightline Crew Chief on KC-135R's at Grissom ARB. Left the Reserve as a E-4 to get my commission.

Commissioned in Dec '05 as a 2nd Lieutenant USAF Active Duty.

Spent 8 months at Moody AFB, Valdosta GA waiting for training and I'm now in Flight School at Laughlin AFB, Del Rio TX. I'll be here for the next 8 months or so. This is already the hardest year of my life and it just keeps getting worse.

I'm always more than happy to answer questions about being a AF pilot if anyone has got 'em.

Re: Military Service

I signed up for the USAF, just looking for a home since I didn't really have one. After the ASVAB I was at the MEPS and there was a glitch in my processing papers. I was all set to ship out to basic then 15 weeks at Chanute for tech school (aerospace ground equipment mechanic) when they said I was civy again. I spent the night in a motel thinking about it and decided to go home and try again. I often wish I had continued, and wonder what might have been. I have many relatives who are active or served; I hold them in the upmost respect.
