| Re: Military Service Hello fellas. I saw this thread and thought I'd drop in. I've proudly served for 9 years in the Army. Six years as an Infantryman, 11H - ToW Gunner, then got married, had a beautiful daughter and became a sham artist for the last three(91E), lol. Went to basic at Ft. Benning and for any of you 'older' troops that remember Harmony Church, that's where it all began. I've fond memories of the "saw dust pit", "the horn", and "swinging" in to eat at the chow hall there. Doing 10 milers to go pick up our pay checks and running in circles around the barracks in the rain. Ahh, those were the good 'ole days! I was stationed at Ft. Ord, 7th ID - 2/27INF. from '87-'93, then dragged my duffle bag to Ft. Riley, 1st ID - 201st FSB serving my final tour 'til '96. I found out the grass isn't always greener. I hated my new MOS, bunch of Pogues! Didn't like the post either. Going from coastal shores to dried up nothingness pretty much sucked. I made the best of it though and have some ok memories outta there. One thing I can say about Kansas, the fishing is awesome! It's been 12 long years since I hung up my BDU's and became a civi, but you know, it's still very much a part of me today. Those years I spent in the Infantry with my friends, my brothers, helped define who I am and I still speak to some of them today. We reminisce of our young days all the time, "Hey man you remember that time...." Most important, we all shared that time together, we sweat and bled together, shared the same doubts and pain; the same fears. My man to the left and to the right of me. We fought not for God, not even for country. In the end, we fought for each other. I'll always have much love for those I served with and for those that serve now and in the future. Your willingness to take the reigns as so many of us before you have, honors us all and I for one salute you. Godspeed and scan your lane. Nec Asperra Terrant! |

| Re: Military Service That's insane, I leave for boot camp next June. My chosen MOS is Security Forces right now, but really debating if I want to have it switched over to Military Police. My recruiter keeps trying to convince me to stick with Security Forces, as for the first couple years of being an MP, you do a lot of standing at a post all day. I have some months to decide though. And boy will you have a blast at MEPS. Don't forget to cough. Good luck. (Just realized this is an older thread, but what the hell.) Quote:
