Re: Military Service

I had an 11X Contract with the Army(11X is Ranger battalion) but they threw that out after I took my Physical and found I was color blind. So I decided to just go to school.

Re: Military Service

11x is actually Infantry Recruit.

You'll either become 11 Bravo (Infantry) or 11 Charlie (Mortarman).

11x is not ranger battalion.

Your MOS wont change if you're in a Ranger Batt... you'll still be an 11b. Now, if you go SF you'll be an 18x, which will change depending on your specialty in your SF unit.

Re: Military Service

Not trying to get off topic here or anything, but did you try to get a waiver, Spuds? If you're still interested in the military, of course.

I too failed my Airborne physical due to my eyesight, but I joined just straight up Infantry, and I was even offered an SF contract... it's easier to get contracts once you're in the military, then when you're still a civilian.

Now, you gotta be an insanely hard worker to get those contracts once in, but you can still get them.

I tried to get just regular infantry but they said no. I talked to the Msgt at MEPS for a waiver and he said no. No tanks, no heavy weapons, no jumping out of planes/helicopters, nothing. I could have anything medical, textile specialist, SF civil affairs, admin, and traffic something or other. I almost signed as field medical but couldnt motivate myself for any of those jobs. I decided just to go to school so thats where I'm at.

also not to get off topic but, my cousin is an MP for the national guard and he is color blind as well. I had asked about this job too and the anwser was again, no. I guess the army liason was in a good mood the day he said ok for my cousin. I also have a cousin who is a blackhawk crew chief in the national guard who has served in afghanistan. He was confused about them not letting me do anything too....

Re: Military Service

Yea... If you have a problem with one job man. Pick something else, do it... in a year... reclass. From what I was told they disqualify you from flying... and thats about it in the long run. If your color blind... Im surprised they don't accept you for infantry, my grandfather(standards were a bit different then) was accepted into the infantry. He said it was easier to pick out uniformed troops with his color blindness. I guess the outline stick's out more or something. But don't let that discourage you. I broke my hand a year and a half ago and they keep shoving me away. I don't really understand the problem with it... I broke it, it Healed, I played football... All was fine and I dont have any pins or anything. Either way, Im still working to get in. I look forward to serving and am proud of everyone else who has served.

Re: Military Service

One thing about the Army. They're finicky on disqualifications. I had several friends go for warrant officer pilot status, but they had Lasik done. They were initially denied. But, three to six months later, they resubmitted their packets and were accepted.

What the others said is true. It's a tad easier to reclass into a desired MOS than to start in one that is tight on requirements. However, make sure you start in an MOS that is not in high demand by the Army.
