Military Service

Any members out there that are currently serving, have served, or are planning on serving in our nations military?

I personally plan on serving in the United States Marine Corps. I am in the process of preparing for the ASVAB and MEPS this month, and will be signing my papers in July when I get back from vacation. I have been looking into Marine Corps Security Forces for my MOS.

Re: Military Service

I was in the USAF and got out in 97. I was a PJ for about 10 years till my body said no more!! It was a lot of fun and I have been to many many countries.

A little advise:

Save money!!! All you can!!
Wait a while before you get married!! (Trust me)

Good Luck to you!!

I was in the Navy, ran with Recon for 4 years until, like badpig, my body said enough.

And I strongly second his advice. Particularly if you end up anywhere near Lejeune. Those women are predatory, uneducated golddiggers. Most of 'em, anyway.

Re: Military Service

I was set to go to the Navy. Firefighter. Then I got hit with reality. After thinking back I was lied to about almost everything and that left a bad taste. Looking back I wish I would have at least went NG or something.

You ran with RECON? I ran with SEAL Team 3 A Platoon. They didnt have a corpman so I was picked. Had a blast!!! Odd mixture though AF with Navy.

I broke my legs on a night time HALO, so I became an (PJ) instructor. I think I would rather stay an operator than instructor.

yeah, i was trained for human intelligence collection. at that time - 1998 - the navy didn't really have humint outside of the SEALs, so I ran with recon.
as far as the instructor tip goes, i signed with the ng for a year as an instructor, and those mf's tried to stoploss and deploy me. thank god for medical records, y'know?

My recruiter was straight forward with me and my buddy. He told us that he will not give us a signing bonus. He wants recruits who want to be Marines and not recruits who are only there because they were promised $XXX.
