| Re: Where would you Shop? Be American, Buy American. IF I have a choice I will buy American any time. Unfortunately that is not a problem. My dad was a long time GM worker and diehard UAW member. (We don't agree politically or about the union mentality.) But he doesn't even want a gift if it comes from another country. We keep our eyes open all year for gifts for him. I did get the buy American mentality from him though. I don't see the need to cater to foreigners, we put up signs in multiple languages, have to provide services (police, fire, government, schools) to people who don't know how to speak our language. Used to someone came to our country and learned the language, now that does not happen. Why should they if they don't have too? And on the whole tech support thing in India, that strikes close at home for me. I spend about 1/2 of each day at work doing training and tech support. I recently had to spend over a week working with tech support on an $800 laser printer we bought. It had terrible print quality. I spent hours talking to people who could not communicate effectively with me(the customer). Each time I was EVENTUALLY sent to level 2 tech support or to their manager (who while Indian did speak excellent Engish). They sent out parts, had a tech come out and replace parts, and eventually someone just had me do a simple procedure that reset the fuser. Why did it take over a week and hours on the phone? |

That's ironic, for a short time when I moved down to Chattanooga, I worked for a company called Convergys, on their SBC Yahoo DSL Customer Service account. I'm not sure if it was prior to the outsourcing to india or not ... but man, those sbc guys really knew how to upset some customers ... I took maybe 60 calls or more a day, and I had people litterally starting the call off by screaming at me, usually 1 or 2 a day...

Oh yeah that sounds like an SBC customer! Don't even get a chance to find out what is wrong and ![]() I left SBC about a year and a half ago, right when they merged with AT&T and I was with them for almost 3 1/2 years before that so if it was within that time frame that you worked for Convergys the outsourcing was going on. Actually it was going on for about 4 years prior, just not as much. And talk about ironic - left SBC to work for a local company that works on printers, fax machines and computers so Rogue if you run into any more printer problems give me a shout.... |

| Re: Where would you Shop? Someone here on the A5OG has a sig. It says, "Quality only hurts once". That is how I am most of the time. Of course, it depends on what I am purchasing. Anything that I am going to be using extensively or on a regular basis I want to be high grade, or at least mid grade quality for obvious reasons. (Thats why I have a rock-solid A5. ) |
