Oh i see how it is, someone comes along with some new kick but gadgets and i'm the old guy holding pebbles...jeez ![]() Hey Kruki, what are you using to make your casts? I read that you cast that stock on your other setup, That had to cost a small fortune. Nice job by the way. |

Cheers AirHog ![]() lol Yeh fickle little buggers arent they old chap ![]() To be clear, the stock on the final version in the pic was a donor stock from an airsoft 'Warrior 1' from Gunner Airsoft in china (very good site .. very good prices) At the time I didnt have the 'spare' cash to finish the custom stock I designed (see pic below) ... ![]() Im looking at casting the new stock sometime in the very near future and looking to produce a prototype version to use as a drop-in stock for A5's 98's and possibly ION's. (Will have to see how that goes as Im tinkering with an idea for a compact CQB bullpup stock for an ION / Q-Loader rig at the moment...) Anyway ... to answer your question ... ![]() I use polyurethane resin for casting. Its about 40% more costwise (Would take about £30-£40 worth to cast one stock) than standard polyester resin ,but has some serious advantages, in this instance: It tools like plastic when cured; very low thermotropic properties (doesnt heat up massively in large volumes and not as brittle); and de-moulds in 5-10 minutes. An alternative I thought of (mentioned it on one of the other forums .. cant remember which ) was to have the shell halves vac-formed and assembled in the same way as you would a model aircraft fuselage.(Maybe thats the way to go when I get my proto's finished ....... . ![]() .

| Re: Sniper Support - Hidden APEX I'm getting ready to do a stock here as well, The best way i found to mold and cast them is to cut them in half, and hollow out the unnecessary areas. Then making a split mold to cast each half. It would probably cut down on your resin needs by half. As for cutting costs on molds, i use a thick brush on silicone, you only need about a 1/4" thick coat over the parts, so that cuts down on material a lot. For a support shell i just use a fiber resin plastic paste. The best part about the brush on is that you don't have to worry about bubbles in the mold rubber. And that can potentially save hundreds on a bad mold. The brush on/support shell method does take more time though, I don't use it on smaller parts. I recently made a budget vacuum chamber for smaller items, cost me about $60. I can get it down to 28 inches of mercury at 70 PSI (Sea level) Let me know if you want the parts list, that is if you don't have one already ![]() My little bubble killer ...![]() |
