Question Very small squad speedball tactics

From what i have read, speedballers usually like to play solo or every man for himself but i was wondering how well two or three man teams would work.

Basic tactics like one covers while the other moves and flanking should work fairly well on a speedball course, right?

Would a well organised squad of woodsballers win over a bunch of gung-ho speedballers that consider themselves to be an army of one?

You tell me.

Re: Very small squad speedball tactics

Trust me it can be done. My friends and I get in some 3 man tourneys every now and then and there is always a lot of teams with angels, timmys, dms, and etc. Now my friends both have Ions and I of course have an A-5, we always place top 5 in the 20+ team tourneys, also those Ions were won by winning a tourney just so you know lol

I really enjoy woodsball and speedball due to their differences but seeing as how most of my local paintball buddies play speedball I rarely get to play in the woods anymore. Thankfully my field has an outdoor castle and wooded course, and underground it has one particular field that takes place in 3 caves and has cars and stuff inside. It's size allows for a more tactical orientiated game(sorta like woods). Man I miss playing in the woods as much as I used too.

If anyone lives in the Eastern Kansas Western Missouri area hit me up and I'll be glad to play.

2 of my friends and I are looking at a 3 man tourney. Do you have any simple but effective tactics for it?

Re: Very small squad speedball tactics

Where are you in KS? I live outside KC MO.

Simbrian, your idea of a coordinated woodsball bunch winning against a group of speedballers seems to bank on the hope that the speedballers wont coordinate. In my experience, that happens rarely. If there is one thing speedballers are good at, its yelling at each other. They will almost always start to communicate.

Flanking, at least in the woodsball sense is also kind of impossible in the airball field. Tight boundaries, and lack of concealment makes it more of a tape-line dash than a stealthy flank. But thats not to say stealth and maneuverability arent impossible. Some of my best games on the speedball field, I have just out-moved the opponent.

Going against a group with any skill though, you will find a lot of woods stuff doesnt quite translate over so well. Keep sharp though, almost everything you learn on the speedball field you can take back into the woods. Playing tourneys, my team and I learned a lot, and improved as individuals a lot as well.

Keep thinking... thats what sets us apart. We adapt and overcome.

Re: Very small squad speedball tactics

Basic strategy would include spreading the field, getting to the corners and edges of the field. This will give you better angles and let you "pinch" them from the sides. If there are only two of you left in a game, cross it up, both players shoot crossfield to prevent anyone from running up and bunkering your teammate.
