Re: Speed ball usage?

MY 2 cents.... Cut it back to a 12 oz or even 9 oz (get a couple.) Or use a remote. It really depends on how much you intend to play. Do some research an the Tippmann Effect. I think (not sure) they use upp'd A5's. The flatline may or may not help on the speedball field. I've never played it, just my 2 cents.

Anyone got change?

Re: Speed ball usage?

I replied twice already (before this was moved to its own thread) and both times my post "disappeared". So I guess since money is tight I should keep my extra .02 to myself on this one.

Re: Speed ball usage?

I have played a few times on the speed ball field with my A-5, I don't use a stock on the marker because I like to get it nice an tucked in close. As far as using an A-5,if it has an E-grip I don't see whey you can't.And being hit with a flat-line on on the speed-ball field your opponent will now it.You might want to try a drop forward or what firemedic had suggested.

Re: Speed ball usage?

In the past I have played many games with the A5 on the Speedball field againist high end guns, even in 2 tournaments and held my own. However, I think the high end guns are so fast it is really hard to use in Speedball. It would deffintely help to get an A5 EGrip w/ WAS Board to help it go faster, but it is still bulky/long for speedball.

If you are using an A5 for Speedball I would stay away from the flatline, a regular 12"-14" barrel would help do a lot, the Flatline is more of a woodsball barrel.

For Woodsball I would go with an A5 it is a great gun for woods play. If you are going into Speedball I would go with the Smart Parts Ion which is a pretty good gun at a low cost $199.

Re: Speed ball usage?

i'm not going to play against high-end markers, just me and my friends, and some people i don't know, i thinkt they're als going to be playing with low-end beginners markers..unless some of them are really really spoiled,(since most of 'em don't have their own jobs...

but my problem is that i don't know if i'm going to play speedball or woodsball,,i just wanted to hear your guys opinions..(if the A-5 is a good speedball marker..i just wanted it coz it looks sweet, and it's a good marker.. (no i'm not some weapon freak that buys it only coz it looks like a mp5,,)

but i've never seen a smart parts ion...and i've never even tried paintball..(soon i will)..but i don't want to buy the wrong marker just because i'm unpatient..:P

Re: Speed ball usage?

Well, it looks like my other post popped back on the forum.... so here it is transfered here.

But I will say that if you are making a “speedball” A5, a Flatline barrel is not really a requirement. Flatlines are for folks who want to float their paint at farther distances than the average marker. But in speedball I just don’t see that as an issue. Any relatively good quality barrel will work just fine for you.

As for being too big or clumsy, that depends more on you than the marker IMHO. For me, it takes an awfully large and cumbersome marker to be “big and clumsy” for me. But I am a relatively big guy and like my marker to have a little weight. However, if you are of smaller stature your standards will probably be different. I will say however that I don’t consider ANY A5 in pretty standard “dress” to be heavy nor clumsy.

You can set up your A5 (or ANY marker) for any style of play. The standard A5 with tank as a stock will give the marker a longer setup than if you used a drop forward and pulled it in tight. Or you can use a short stock (either off the back of the marker or bottom of the grip frame) and make a relatively compact setup. And a lot of speedball players like longer barrels when playing so they can press them into the side of inflatables. So you can still keep a short setup with long barrel. And so on and so on….

But all of this is purely subjective. And often times speedball players try to compare markers to others on the field or they are used to using. This IMHO can give an unfair representation of any given marker. The best way to see if it will work for you is to get your hands on an A5 and play with it, either in a game or just pretending to shoot it and see how it feels when you snapshoot or switch targets quickly.

I hope this helps.

That being the case. I would pick up a good used A5 or even a 98 custom. I'd say just a 98, but at used prices an A5 is a great deal. Just stick to a stock A5 setup and get used to the sport and gun. From there once you've discovered your likes and dislikes you can go from there. Choosing any Tippmann as a first marker is a wise choice as they are tanks (near indestructable) and hard to beat for value for money. The A5 can do pretty much anything you want it to do in the paintball world. A great woods marker that can also do 20+ bps with an APE board and votex cyclone mod. Good luck and welcome to the sport.
