18" opsgear speedball?

I have a 18" opsgear fluted barrel for my A5. It's going to be my first time using it on a indoor speedball course. I was wondering would it still make sense to use that if I'm just in a stationary position?

Re: 18" opsgear speedball?

My friend has the 18" fluted barrel and has used it for speedball. He pushes the barrel against the blow-up bunkers so all that is sticking out is the end of the barrel. It helps him stay back farther and out of the line of fire.

Re: 18" opsgear speedball?

I considered getting this barrel but decide against it. I decided 18" was just too long for speedball, more so for woodsball. I'm getting a 14" palmers brass instead.

Re: 18" opsgear speedball?

I am against any barrel length over 14", so I would have to say that I don't think it is a good idea. Just my opinion

Re: 18" opsgear speedball?

My friend uses that same barrel when we play at our outlaw field. I can see where it can help you stay back a little, having that extra 4" to keep yourself out of the line of fire, and only allowing the barrel against the bunker.

Re: 18" opsgear speedball?

I have to agree with hired gun. You really do not need that long a barrel in speedball but sometimes it comes down to personal preference and what you are comfortable with. I use a 12" unported Palmers and a 12" J&J ceramic. These work the best for me. What may work for me, may not for you. Try your barrel and see if it will work. The length will be you biggest thing to work around. Other thing is that you may not want to stay stationary for very long. You do not want the opposing team to pin you in. Good luck.

Re: 18" opsgear speedball?

Longer(within reason) barrels help players in speedball to wrap their bunkers by being able to push into the bunker with their barrel, however if you are playing back typically you are going to be playing a bit off the bunker anyways so that you can crossup and snap shoot more easily.

If you plan on actually moving the 18 inch barrel is going to be a pain in the *** as it will be nothing but a cumbersome nuisance, but if you are just going to occupy one of the back standups and trade paint you may be ok.

Re: 18" opsgear speedball?

Im a front and i use 12 inch.

20 is to big... you can play with it.. i wouldnt worry about it. but if your really serious about playing speedball your might wanna need a new barrel... its gunna get in your way when you try to become the bunker (there not as big as they look :-))

Re: 18" opsgear speedball?

For speedball, I've personally only seen barrel lengths of up to 16 inches, nothing longer. The most common size I've seen is 14, then 12, then some 16s.
