Re: Are sights useful?

I modified my front sight to turn it into a passive fiberoptic setup.

I got a piece of rod from a fiber-optic kit that you can buy at any sporting goods place. After trimming it to the same length as the front sight blade, i trimmed the front sight blade down by the thickness of the rod. That way, the top of the rod is at the same height as the original front sight.

Once it was super-glued into place, i cut a few slits in the top of the front sight hood to let the ligh in to do its thing.

As you can see, the results are quite effective. It uses whatever available light is around to light up the rod part, and it is not visible to anyone but me.

Total cost: maybe $10.

Then, I also took off the rear diopter sight out of the back. My A5 now has a 'notch' When combined with the modified front sight, you get this kind of sight picture:

I've posted this up before, but since the topic came up again, I figured some more/newer folks could use it...

It makes it a LOT easier to snap-aim and snap-shoot.

I still use a red dot and a laser from time to time, but this is a quick and easy way to dramatically up your A5's 'sight-ability'

Re: Are sights useful?

I like them when I'm acting as a sniper, it gives me confidence to know that my one shoot I send down range will conect or when I have the time to take my time with the shot. But for fast paced regular paintball play and distance, they are mostly usless.

Re: Are sights useful?

I personally have a red dot sight with a car stock, and I cannot see the sight with my mask on. I am debating whether to take off the stock, sell the sight, or buy an alternative item to raise/move the sight so I can see it. I like the thought of 1 shot kills, but at this point it's just extra weight.

Re: Are sights useful?

I am glad I ran into this post....Cause I was wondering that myself. I think as far as scouting goes that a scope would be good...as far as shooting goes I think it would get in the way. Sites however might be good for getting you in the ballpark.

Re: Are sights useful?

I have the standard Sights fitted (rear one missing at the moment as I don't even use them!). I tend to look down the barrel "Shotgun Style" to aim, in the same way that a SupAir player does with his Space Gun! LOL.

I am however considering a tube type Red/Green Dot Sight or Eotech Style HoloSight, just to add to the markers looks. For function, the Eotech is actually the better option for paintball as it is easily used with a full face mask.

Re: Are sights useful?

I was wondering about this.

I got the A5A2 air-thru and it works great. Shouldering that thing and taking snap shots is very instinctive.

The only problem is that my mask is cheap and pretty solid. No give at all, so I can't use the iron sights. I was thinking of getting an M16 style carry handle and front sight to raise it (it just needs to be raised maybe an inch or two and I'll see through them fine), but those things are @#$%ing pricey!

A red dot sight with a raised weaver rail is like $20-30, and a full M16 style iron sight is easily $100 for both parts. Might as well get the red dot.

Any thoughts?
