Re: Good shooting habits, do you have them?

So far good and valid points I've seen here. The biggest things that are going to contribute to good shooting habits have pretty much been covered here. Biggest things to remember and train on that have been said are stright foward. When engaging your target or Targets, first and foremost is going to be cover, find the best available and get to it, from here you can use more "precision" even though it is a hard thing to get from a standard marker. Square off against your target, giving them the smallest target possible by slightly shifting the NON-Shooting side of your body towards your target. Your stance is a fairly big contributing factor to this as well, even though you are shooting a marker that has virtually no recoil, it is still best to position your firing side leg towards the rear of your body, slightly bending at the knee, as well as postioning the non-fring side leg towards the front in the same manner. TUCK YOUR ARMS IN!!!!! Biggest thing, as I have seen many of players tagged out (Inculding myself) when behind a covered position becasue their elbow was out providing more of a target.
And as for the trigger pulling, well, though it does not have a HUGE impact, lern to pull the trigger properly, do not GRASP the trigger using your entire finger, only the tip should be firmly against the trigger and pulling, and if you got a "Gorrilla Powered Hand" this is kind of important, as using the entire finger shifts the gun in the direction of pull, thus bringing your aim more off target. Shoulder weld (If you use a stock) should be practiced routinley, mainly practice shooting targets from a ready to fire position, this involves having your gun generally pointed near the ground with the stock somewhat fixed to your shoulder as most of you probably do when moving. Practice shifting from this ready position to the fire position, this way, you know that when you snap your marker into postion to fire, you are not just guessing where the rounds "may" go.

And the thing I guess to remember also is that, no matter how good your training in this is, it is after all, a paintball gun, and we all know what the going rate as far as accuracy is to begin with, and sometimes, it doesnt matter what you do, or how good your tactics and "habits, sometimes its just luck of the draw.

i got some good laughs from this thread.

Just to add my 2’ show me a text-book rifle stance and I'll show you a grossly overexposed paintball stance.

Re: Good shooting habits, do you have them?

Damn I need me some pictures of me playing or "posing yo!", doing my "blue steel" and my "magnum" hahaha. I do know I don't stick my elbows out trying to fly, but probably my aiming position is bad. For some reason I walk around aiming around the solar plexus area of my opponents....good or bad?

My classic "ready to get the bad guy in the dining room" pose shot:

Coming up from laying down:

The best footing I could get in such un-even terrain. Ready to get the hell out because there was about 6 guys advancing on my position:

I'm always open for suggestions to improve my game.

I hate when those bad guys pop up in my dining room. They're such pests.

I'm sorry, I can't provide the author of that quote at the moment. I only remember the gist.

It depends on your personality, but for me, working on technique is always a key part of my satisfaction. Little revelations every day, recognizing that I am improving, is a huge part of my enjoyment with whatever I do.

At the same time, I can get a little annoyed with people who are a little too militant about it, or take it too seriously. It's a game to me too, and especially a fun way to get exercise, be outside and socialize a little.

So it's just up to you as the player. If you don't really care how you shoot, I'm surprised to find you reading and responding in this thread.

Oh, one other point I'll touch on is that even with what I've said here, I'm not all that interested in practicing, except by playing. I don't have the time, money or interest to spend just shooting beyond what I need to do to get an idea of how my gun behaves. And that's probably because one of the main things I enjoy in paintball is hiding, stalking and tactics -- I'm definitely a woodsballer.

Re: Good shooting habits, do you have them?

Eh. This thread reminds me of a fencing class I once took. This instructor was running around telling everyone what to do.

"Bend here. Only use your wrist here. Step like this. You're doing it all wrong. No no no, the book clearly says everybody should do it THIS WAY or else they're wrong."

...and then I kicked his ass.

No bull here. I'm not saying this to brag. I'm just pointing out that everybody is different and that just because the textbook says it doesn't mean it applies to all 6 billion humans on the planet.

As far as I'm concerned, the only wrong way of shooting is the way that doesn't put paint all over your enemy's face.

You are correct that not all things found in a book applies to all people and all situations, but when it comes to shooting skills and the things most people are posting it is not just "textbook" lessons, but real world lessons. And often times the real world will also toss in odd things like the kid who knows NOTHING about paintball or shooting and is using a rental marker and still marks you out. That does not however, mean good shooting habits and practices are not good or valid. And you can often overpower another player with bravado and speed, but that too does not mean good shooting habits and practices are not good and valid either.

Sorry, but you do sound like you are trying to brag and prove that "what I do, no matter if it is right or wrong is the correct way... and teachers (or others who may be passing down information) don't know what they are talking about", and it also shows a great disrespect for your teacher. This may not have been your intent, but at least for me, that is how it came across.
