Fire Team Basics

I'm sure this may already be posted in here somewhere, but I'll post it any how.... I had this posted in my team forums and figured it would be beneficial for everyone here too.

The following is how a typical single envelopment would work:

4 guys (a Fire Team) kit up ( say 2 Sabers, 1 Dagger 1 BroadSword) and work their way to an objective (flag) staying loosely together (like a staggered column), doing the fire and maneuver thing also known as Bounding OverWatch (2 guys move a short distance while the other 2 cover their movement... like leap frog). Upon reaching the flag area they break into 2 elements. 1 supporting and 1 assaulting. The supporting element keeps the enemy at the flag busy by throwing down suppressing fire while the maneuvering element moves to flank the flag. Once in position both elements start working their way in toward the flag alternating the support / assault roles. Upon reaching the flag, 2 guys stay on the flag while the other 2 take defensive overwatch positions. That's it in a nutshell.

This whole movement has to happen really fast and everyone on the team has to know whats going to happen and what to do if it doesn't. It's a simple concept but the execution is not so simple. It takes team coordination, communication and most of all... "flexibility". To attain all of that takes training and repetition.

We have had some structured training on these maneuvers, but for those for you who weren't at the training, remember to just apply the basics :

1. Stay/move with your team,
2. Cover your team.
3. Team leaders communicate with your team.

Re: Fire Team Basics

You may want to think about how long you expose yourself. You shold move from cover to cover in 3-5sec rushes leapfroging with a team member. Find your next place of cover before you move! The average person will take 3sec to lock on to you and start to fire. When you move say to your self as you go "I'm up, they see me, I'm down" and move acordingly.

Re: Fire Team Basics

Well if they read all of those it will definitely occupy some time.
My First Sergeant would only let us read FMs when we were on CQ.That made for a long 24 hours.

Re: Fire Team Basics

Nothing quite like CQ duty. I don't think I have ever been so board in my life, and then when some thing actualy happens the situations are so incredably stupid (or the result of some ones' incredable stupidity) that I just want to beat my head agenst the wall.
