Defensive Tactics

Fundamentals of Defensive Tactics

Key Terrain:
a. Secure positions of advantage
  1. High ground
  2. Barricades or Bunkers
  3. Good cover and Concealment
Cover & Concealment:
a. Ambush
  1. Use the element of surprise to your advantage -- The OpFor needs to come to you
Observation & fields of Fire:
a. Prevent Surprise --
  1. Keep eyes on OpFor once located
  2. Keep your Flanks tied in tight to the objective
b. Deny OpFor a good obs point --
  1. Try to control all high ground
  2. If unable to control, stay concealed
c. Fields of Fire --
  1. Good angles
  2. Overlapping amongst the FT members
  3. Clear and mostly unobstructed
  4. Set up on the OpFor's avenue of approach
  5. Set up in a good concealed/covered position
  6. Don't open fire until the majority of the OpFor is in the "Kill Zone".
Acronyms:
OpFor - Opposing force/Bad Guys
Obs - Observation
FT - Fire Team

Re: Defensive Tactics

concerning number 6, the best time to hit a passing patrol is when they are almost completely past your first ambusher. Then hit them while their backs are all to your positions.
"Gauntlets" of fire are outstanding to use as you have a small force on one side of a trail, and a larger force on the other. That way, when the patrol gets engaged from one side and try to leave the trail onto the other side, the larger force then picks them up. (Jab with the left and then hook with the right(if that makes it easier to envision))

Re: Defensive Tactics

Thank you.
I will try and draw up a few crappy (not on purpose, I just draw that way) diagrams.

They aren't uploading.
It says invalid post specified.
I'm so confused....

Re: Defensive Tactics

Quick synopsis, yet easy to understand. It seems like you've got a lot of pent up tactics in your head. lol

Maybe you would think about adding all these threads to your signature?

Re: Defensive Tactics

Good read. I'm glad I stumbled on to these and plan to use them the next time we play attack and defend. Might have to pick your brain and post the floor map of the building we use for attack and defend. One room, 3 hallways, two entry points, 8 windows...We've found it very difficult to defend based on the available angles of approach.
