cheap, rugged, reliable, and accurate (enough) (and 500 dollars less than some shiny topend spacegun) and with that 500 bucks you can buy some proper woodball upgrades and go play REAL paintball (instead of "arena football" with paint) generally I dislike speedballers and thier attitudes - usually they cruise about with such arrogance about thier "extreme sport"
there are exceptions - but usually the brightly clad, spacegun toting wenies can keep thier silly game.

While it is true that you have made allowances for "exceptions," to pigeon-hole an entire subsection of players in our sport, or the manner in which they enjoy this mad game of ours is rather unbecoming.

Re: A-5 Users doomed for woodsball?

an A5 would be an ok gun for speedball, i own an a5, (it isn't the fastest thing seeing as how it is stock) but if someone had a e-trigger, or response trigger, with a good barrel, and some "squishy"paddles, and some other cyclone mods, then they could shoot fast enough, and accurate enough, to play up against the "most used", and "popular" guns for speedball

Re: A-5 Users doomed for woodsball?

I speedball and woodsball with a 5. I use compressed air with a remote coil, a response trigger, a flatline barrel and a folding stock. I bought an a 5 because I love the milsim qualities. I think the a 5 is awesome in both styles of play. I prefer the woods but alot of my friends are speedballers. In the trees I have the advantage with my range, patience and camo. In the air I find myself slightly less mobile than the teams we play against, but it all comes down
using comunication and tactics to win. I will speedball my a 5 any day.

I'll take my flogging but I just call it like I see it.

woodsball seems to me to be a pretty laid back (competitively) affair, you go out, search and destroy for a while. and when the time limit is over or the flag gets captured... do we really care which team "won"? not really. the game was played, you took a few guys out and good fun was had by all - scenario play is slightly different, but it's still woodsball. Woodsball is where the game started, and for those of use who started plyaing in the 80's - woodsball is what we started on. (my first game was in 88' playing renegade style with a splatmaster, just out of 5th grade I was.) Speedball (Ie: tournament style paintball on a short mirrored course) IMHO, introduces a level of competition to the game I dislike - it breeds arrogance, it cuts down on fun factor, too often egos clash and arguments follow. it becomes a question of... who is your "sponsor", what kind of gun you have and weather or not you can win at tournament.

and lets face it... most tournament ball players who wear the silly pants and jerseys (they probably think my cammies are silly too - but I'm a woodsballer and I can care less... - I'll go pound a pint and laugh at them instead ) and pack the 1500 dollar spaceguns - are mid to late teenage males. and we know what that means - throw in some competition, a bit of ego and blend with a distinct lack of brains to testosterone. and what you get is someone you don't really want to hang out with until they are 25 or so... with a gun... If I met myself at 17 now, I'd probably want to kick my own young butt.
really - I'm not knocking mirrored short course style play (with the right crowd and mindset it can be very fun) but getting bunkered (it happens no matter how good you are sometimes), bonus balled, and "pwned" by an angel toting 16 year old kid who thinks that is what the game is about (and this is what tournament ball breeds) is NOT fun. which is why I don't play tournement style ball on airball type fields - the environment is not what would consider fun, and it would bring out the worst in me - so I just don't do it.

That's me as well. I've never used a marker that was too heavy.

While I do have an Autococker Tactical Trilogy mechanical marker that can play speedball, it's not my thing. I just like natural terrain and urban type of environments.

But yeah considering the mods I've done, yeeaahhh.... My A5 can't be used for speedball bps is likely too high.

Re: A-5 Users doomed for woodsball?

I also can't wait for the new a 5 e grip I saw a thread on. That pluss a complete cyclone overhaul and get a mp5 gas through to a drop down or remote and my a 5 will be right where I want it. Milsim woodsball and speedball ready. I already have my flatline and folding stock. I think the only noticeable downside will bethe weight compared to my friends toys. But I like that weight, I feel that the realism is a much better feel when shooting and makes me take shots more seriously and as a result helps my accuracy focus and overall performance. Put me in the trees any day, but those fast action games where playing the angles and teamwork are key sure canbe a blast.

Btw I find it satisfying when you can show the spacers how versatile our guns can be.

Re: A-5 Users doomed for woodsball?

Hi, great forum btw. Tbh all the woodsman and speedball players I talk to pretty much say the same thing.A5 (or similar)for woods and Dye ,Proto etc for speedball. A5 is a great gun, simple and extremely rugged. It is basically the AK47 of the paintball world.....long live the A5 lol

Re: A-5 Users doomed for woodsball?

yeah us a-5 players do have the disadvantage if you play with gun hits count, if you don' t than as long as you are comfortable with your weapon and know how to properly snap shoot than the tippmann isn't that bad.
but I guarantee if you faced off one pro team with a-5 and the other with speedball guns the a-5 team will probably lose 4-5 times.

Re: A-5 Users doomed for woodsball?

Paintball just like poker. The fields make less money off of a woodsball player than a speedball player. Casinos make less money off a Omaha or stud player than they do a Texas holdem player. The paintball games are faster and burn more paint. i.e. more money for the fields. Hands are faster and generate a larger rake for the casino. Again more money. I think its a lot of field owners intent to do away with woods ball. Just like the casinos did with Omaha and Stud. Makes me sick but thats business and a lot of fields tolerate the bashing of woodsballers for this reason. They side with there bread and butter. Anyone who argues this practice doent take place needs to open there eyes. But this is not saying that woodsballers dont give themselfs a blackeye once in a wile too.

This is why I play a lot of outlaw. I just hate the favoritism and wont support a field that does that.

Re: A-5 Users doomed for woodsball?

what do you mean when you say "take off the stock." To my knowledge, the A-5 does not come with a stock, it is an upgrade that can be added to the marker.
