Re: A-5 Users doomed for woodsball?

I agree that the bottom line of it all is skill and getting to where your equipment is an extension of yourself. Ultimately the player in fact makes the gun, not the other way around. That being said, there is definitely a disadvantage in the cyclone feed when it comes to using the A5 for speedball, but considering there are quite a few lefties who've adapted to this problem, it's again ultimately a matter of teaching yourself to play 'around' the huge hopper thingy on the side! I've used my A5 in rec games quite a few times and what can I say? It's an A5. I can see how players who use spaceguns and may NOT have had any experience with an A5 on a speedball field may THINK that it's better suited to woods, but consider Tippmann Effect. They use Tippmann markers in speedball and they're pros! (I'm a bit out of the loop on pro teams so if Effect isn't around anymore, bare with me!) I personally prefer a spacegun for speedball ONLY because I've got my A5 set up for woods with a Q-loader and only 1 spare q-pod, but once I get more pods for that system it'll definitely be making an appearance on the speedball fields! As it stands, I'll soon be the proud owner of a shiny red Mini, but don't for a second think that she'll be Speedball only!

:cackles evilly:

By the way, Cobra, I think the most fun I've EVER had on a speedball field was when I borrowed my friend's Phantom! I really want one of those!

Re: A-5 Users doomed for woodsball?

i have an a5 and im not "doomed" to woodsball! ive played speedball, woodsball, and scenario. as far as im concered woodsball and scenario paintball are a hell of alot more fun then speedball. i prefer a large field were you can actually get behind people and sneak around. working as a team in the bush is much more exciting than sitting behind an air bag firing off 10 000 balls a game IMO. besides if youve practiced with your gun and know the field you should be able to beat someone whos got an angel no matter what your carrying. its the player not the gun.

Re: A-5 Users doomed for woodsball?

I like either type of play. As long as I can run... that is how I win most of the time. if I am doing a wide flank maneuver, I will run as fast as possible the whole way down the field, til I get to the bottom. Anyone opfor I see on the way through usually tries to throw some paint at me, but usually Im going way to fast for them to try and get a bead on me, and the paint lands either in front/behind me, or glances off. When I STOP, I instantly become dead meat.

I dont care what I play, speed or woods; I have my A5, and it will easily adapt to both.

Re: A-5 Users doomed for woodsball?

YAGBTS: I loaned the first marker I ever got to one of the refs so he could play his friend in a one on one speedball, this guy had a fully decked out Angel. You name the gadget or widget or whatever, it was on the angel. The game lasted less than a minute with the ref winning easily, he pinned him down in the corner bunker and advanced....marker he borrowed from me...Genesis Surge II, stock, no add ons, beat up PMI hopper. It is not the marker, it is the player

Does it shoot .68 cal paintballs? "check"

If you hit someone will they be out? "check"

Do you think it's cool? "check"

Re: A-5 Users doomed for woodsball?

I love my 98, too reluctant to go to an A5, that gun has been rock solid and I've taken many a speedballer out playing recball with that gun, its also fantastic to take out all the oppositions opsgear outfitted tippmanns

its paintball..... ill trade paint with anyone and anything that flings paint, so what I look silly in my surplus BDUs and tactical gear against all the jeresys and raceguns on a recball field, and we are absolutely monsters in the woods when it cones to blending in and utilizing the terrain and tactics

im having fun, so are they usually, its all good, even if you have a lil smack talking between games

Re: A-5 Users doomed for woodsball?

The A5 can be used for speedball but so can any paintball gun. It is the player, not the gun, that wins games but playing with a gun that wasn't designed for speedball only gives you an unnecessary disadvantage. Speedball guns are made for speedball and not for woodsball and vice versa. That's why I have two guns, a Mini for speedball and an A5 for woodsball.

I like to compare my Mini to a jet and my A5 to a tank. A jet can't do well on land and a tank would be destroyed if it were somehow thrown into the air. In their own territory, however, they are a force to be reckoned with.

I don't like to limit myself to one type of play over the other although, I must say, that I do play more speedball than woodsball, mainly because my college has a speedball team. Whenever I can, however, I do enjoy playing a good game of woodsball.

Crossing boundaries. Airborne tanks.

The first speedball game I ever played was with my A5. The other team kinda ignored the fact that I was on the field. Needless to say I made them pay for it dearly. The second game every person on that team was gunning for me lol.

Well, I didn't want you guys to delve into my analogy too deeply. You know what I meant though.

High precision and performance vs ultimate durability.

Re: A-5 Users doomed for woodsball?

For me at least, I spend as much as they do on gear (excluding the 2 boxes of paint per game and the red jammies) but my focus is scenario paintball and I have to get gear that will allow me to play in a natural environment for extended periods of time. This would include all the camo, vests, holsters, radios, kneepads, paint, etc...the last thing I would like to worry about is my marker malfunctioning or how many ropes it lays down...I want reliable functionality in adverse situations...and the Tippmanns have ALWAYS given me that.
